* | genetlink: make netns awareJohannes Berg2009-07-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This makes generic netlink network namespace aware. No generic netlink families except for the controller family are made namespace aware, they need to be checked one by one and then set the family->netnsok member to true. A new function genlmsg_multicast_netns() is introduced to allow sending a multicast message in a given namespace, for example when it applies to an object that lives in that namespace, a new function genlmsg_multicast_allns() to send a message to all network namespaces (for objects that do not have an associated netns). The function genlmsg_multicast() is changed to multicast the message in just init_net, which is currently correct for all generic netlink families since they only work in init_net right now. Some will later want to work in all net namespaces because they do not care about the netns at all -- those will have to be converted to use one of the new functions genlmsg_multicast_allns() or genlmsg_multicast_netns() whenever they are made netns aware in some way. After this patch families can easily decide whether or not they should be available in all net namespaces. Many genl families us it for objects not related to networking and should therefore be available in all namespaces, but that will have to be done on a per family basis. Note that this doesn't touch on the checkpoint/restart problem where network namespaces could be used, genl families and multicast groups are numbered globally and I see no easy way of changing that, especially since it must be possible to multicast to all network namespaces for those families that do not care about netns. * net: Move rx skb_orphan call to where neededHerbert Xu2009-06-23
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In order to get the tun driver to account packets, we need to be able to receive packets with destructors set. To be on the safe side, I added an skb_orphan call for all protocols by default since some of them (IP in particular) cannot handle receiving packets destructors properly. Now it seems that at least one protocol (CAN) expects to be able to pass skb->sk through the rx path without getting clobbered. So this patch attempts to fix this properly by moving the skb_orphan call to where it's actually needed. In particular, I've added it to skb_set_owner_[rw] which is what most users of skb->destructor call. This is actually an improvement for tun too since it means that we only give back the amount charged to the socket when the skb is passed to another socket that will also be charged accordingly. * net: use NLMSG_DEFAULT_SIZE in nlmsg_new() allocationsPablo Neira Ayuso2009-05-19
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | nlmsg_new() adds the size of the netlink header to the value that has been passed as parameter. If NLMSG_GOODSIZE is selected, we request an allocation of one memory page plus the size of the header. Instead, NLMSG_DEFAULT_SIZE should be used since it already substracts the size of the Netlink header. I have the impression that the similar naming in both constant is error prone when using it with nlmsg_new(). * proc 2/2: remove struct proc_dir_entry::ownerAlexey Dobriyan2009-03-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Setting ->owner as done currently (pde->owner = THIS_MODULE) is racy as correctly noted at bug #12454. Someone can lookup entry with NULL ->owner, thus not pinning enything, and release it later resulting in module refcount underflow. We can keep ->owner and supply it at registration time like ->proc_fops and ->data. But this leaves ->owner as easy-manipulative field (just one C assignment) and somebody will forget to unpin previous/pin current module when switching ->owner. ->proc_fops is declared as "const" which should give some thoughts. ->read_proc/->write_proc were just fixed to not require ->owner for protection. rmmod'ed directories will be empty and return "." and ".." -- no harm. And directories with tricky enough readdir and lookup shouldn't be modular. We definitely don't want such modular code. Removing ->owner will also make PDE smaller. So, let's nuke it. Kudos to Jeff Layton for reminding about this, let's say, oversight. http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12454 Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com>

* netdevice: safe convert to netdev_priv() #part-4Wang Chen2008-11-13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv: 1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv(). 2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv. But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it directly. This patch is a safe convert for netdev->priv to netdev_priv(netdev). Since all of the netdev->priv is only for read. But it is too big to be sent in one mail. I split it to 4 parts and make every part smaller than 100,000 bytes, which is max size allowed by vger. * | | | | tty: Ldisc revampAlan Cox2008-07-20
| |_|_|/ |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Move the line disciplines towards a conventional ->ops arrangement. For the moment the actual 'tty_ldisc' struct in the tty is kept as part of the tty struct but this can then be changed if it turns out that when it all settles down we want to refcount ldiscs separately to the tty. Pull the ldisc code out of /proc and put it with our ldisc code. Signed-off-by: Alan Cox <alan@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

| | |/ | |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix an incorrect return value check of genlmsg_put() in irda_nl_get_mode(). genlmsg_put() does not use ERR_PTR() to encode return values, it just returns NULL on error.
