* ipv6: assign PDE->data before gluing PDE into /proc treeDenis V. Lunev2008-05-02
| | | | | | | Simply replace proc_create and further data assigned with proc_create_data. Signed-off-by: Denis V. Lunev <den@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [IPV6][NETNS]: Display per-net info in sockstat6 file.Pavel Emelyanov2008-03-31
| | | | | | | | Do with the sockstat6 file what we've already done for the sockstat. Same good side effect - ipv6 reassembling stats are now shown per-net. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SOCK][NETNS]: Register sockstat(6) files in each net.Pavel Emelyanov2008-03-31
| | | | | | | | Currently they live in init_net only, but now almost all the info they can provide is available per-net. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [SOCK][NETNS]: Add a struct net argument to sock_prot_inuse_add and _get.Pavel Emelyanov2008-03-31
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This counter is about to become per-proto-and-per-net, so we'll need two arguments to determine which cell in this "table" to work with. All the places, but proc already pass proper net to it - proc will be tuned a bit later. Some indentation with spaces in proc files is done to keep the file coding style consistent. * [NET] NETNS: Omit net_device->nd_net without CONFIG_NET_NS.YOSHIFUJI Hideaki2008-03-25
| | | | | | | | Introduce per-net_device inlines: dev_net(), dev_net_set(). Without CONFIG_NET_NS, no namespace other than &init_net exists. Let's explicitly define them to help compiler optimizations. Signed-off-by: YOSHIFUJI Hideaki <yoshfuji@linux-ipv6.org>
* [UDP]: Revert udplite and code split.David S. Miller2008-03-06
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This reverts commit db1ed684f6c430c4cdad67d058688b8a1b5e607c ("[IPV6] UDP: Rename IPv6 UDP files."), commit 8be8af8fa4405652e6c0797db5465a4be8afb998 ("[IPV4] UDP: Move IPv4-specific bits to other file.") and commit e898d4db2749c6052072e9bc4448e396cbdeb06a ("[UDP]: Allow users to configure UDP-Lite."). First, udplite is of such small cost, and it is a core protocol just like TCP and normal UDP are. We spent enormous amounts of effort to make udplite share as much code with core UDP as possible. All of that work is less valuable if we're just going to slap a config option on udplite support. It is also causing build failures, as reported on linux-next, showing that the changeset was not tested very well. In fact, this is the second build failure resulting from the udplite change. Finally, the config options provided was a bool, instead of a modular option. Meaning the udplite code does not even get build tested by allmodconfig builds, and furthermore the user is not presented with a reasonable modular build option which is particularly needed by distribution vendors. * [NET]: prot_inuse cleanups and optimizationsEric Dumazet2008-01-28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 1) Cleanups (all functions are prefixed by sock_prot_inuse) sock_prot_inc_use(prot) -> sock_prot_inuse_add(prot,-1) sock_prot_dec_use(prot) -> sock_prot_inuse_add(prot,-1) sock_prot_inuse() -> sock_prot_inuse_get() New functions : sock_prot_inuse_init() and sock_prot_inuse_free() to abstract pcounter use. 2) if CONFIG_PROC_FS=n, we can zap 'inuse' member from "struct proto", since nobody wants to read the inuse value. This saves 1372 bytes on i386/SMP and some cpu cycles. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [UDP]: Restore missing inDatagrams incrementsHerbert Xu2008-01-28

* [NET]: Define infrastructure to keep 'inuse' changes in an efficent SMP/NUMA ↵Eric Dumazet2007-11-07
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | way. "struct proto" currently uses an array stats[NR_CPUS] to track change on 'inuse' sockets per protocol. If NR_CPUS is big, this means we use a big memory area for this. Moreover, all this memory area is located on a single node on NUMA machines, increasing memory pressure on the boot node. In this patch, I tried to : - Keep a fast !CONFIG_SMP implementation - Keep a fast CONFIG_SMP implementation for often used protocols (tcp,udp,raw,...) - Introduce a NUMA efficient implementation Some helper macros are defined in include/net/sock.h These macros take into account CONFIG_SMP If a "struct proto" is declared without using DEFINE_PROTO_INUSE / REF_PROTO_INUSE macros, it will automatically use a default implementation, using a dynamically allocated percpu zone. This default implementation will be NUMA efficient, but might use 32/64 bytes per possible cpu because of current alloc_percpu() implementation. However it still should be better than previous implementation based on stats[NR_CPUS] field. When a "struct proto" is changed to use the new macros, we use a single static "int" percpu variable, lowering the memory and cpu costs, still preserving NUMA efficiency. * [INET]: Collect frag queues management objects togetherPavel Emelyanov2007-10-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are some objects that are common in all the places which are used to keep track of frag queues, they are: * hash table * LRU list * rw lock * rnd number for hash function * the number of queues * the amount of memory occupied by queues * secret timer Move all this stuff into one structure (struct inet_frags) to make it possible use them uniformly in the future. Like with the previous patch this mostly consists of hunks like - write_lock(&ipfrag_lock); + write_lock(&ip4_frags.lock); To address the issue with exporting the number of queues and the amount of memory occupied by queues outside the .c file they are declared in, I introduce a couple of helpers. * [IPV6]: Add ICMPMsgStats MIB (RFC 4293) [rev 2]David L Stevens2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Background: RFC 4293 deprecates existing individual, named ICMP type counters to be replaced with the ICMPMsgStatsTable. This table includes entries for both IPv4 and IPv6, and requires counting of all ICMP types, whether or not the machine implements the type. These patches "remove" (but not really) the existing counters, and replace them with the ICMPMsgStats tables for v4 and v6. It includes the named counters in the /proc places they were, but gets the values for them from the new tables. It also counts packets generated from raw socket output (e.g., OutEchoes, MLD queries, RA's from radvd, etc). Changes: 1) create icmpmsg_statistics mib 2) create icmpv6msg_statistics mib 3) modify existing counters to use these 4) modify /proc/net/snmp to add "IcmpMsg" with all ICMP types listed by number for easy SNMP parsing 5) modify /proc/net/snmp printing for "Icmp" to get the named data from new counters. [new to 2nd revision] 6) support per-interface ICMP stats 7) use common macro for per-device stat macros Signed-off-by: David L Stevens <dlstevens@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * [NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespaceEric W. Biederman2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace. * [IPV6]: Track device renames in snmp6.Stephen Hemminger2007-04-29
| | | | | | | | | | | When network device's are renamed, the IPV6 snmp6 code gets confused. It doesn't track name changes so it will OOPS when network device's are removed. The fix is trivial, just unregister/re-register in notify handler. Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [IPV6]: Consolidate common SNMP codeHerbert Xu2007-04-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch moves the non-proc SNMP code into addrconf.c and reuses IPv4 SNMP code where applicable. As a result we can skip proc.o if /proc is disabled. Note that I've made a number of functions static since they're only used by addrconf.c for now. If they ever get used elsewhere we can always remove the static. * [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). * [PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 7Arjan van de Ven2007-02-12
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. * [NET]: Supporting UDP-Lite (RFC 3828) in LinuxGerrit Renker2006-12-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a revision of the previously submitted patch, which alters the way files are organized and compiled in the following manner: * UDP and UDP-Lite now use separate object files * source file dependencies resolved via header files net/ipv{4,6}/udp_impl.h * order of inclusion files in udp.c/udplite.c adapted accordingly [NET/IPv4]: Support for the UDP-Lite protocol (RFC 3828) This patch adds support for UDP-Lite to the IPv4 stack, provided as an extension to the existing UDPv4 code: * generic routines are all located in net/ipv4/udp.c * UDP-Lite specific routines are in net/ipv4/udplite.c * MIB/statistics support in /proc/net/snmp and /proc/net/udplite * shared API with extensions for partial checksum coverage [NET/IPv6]: Extension for UDP-Lite over IPv6 It extends the existing UDPv6 code base with support for UDP-Lite in the same manner as per UDPv4. In particular, * UDPv6 generic and shared code is in net/ipv6/udp.c * UDP-Litev6 specific extensions are in net/ipv6/udplite.c * MIB/statistics support in /proc/net/snmp6 and /proc/net/udplite6 * support for IPV6_ADDRFORM * aligned the coding style of protocol initialisation with af_inet6.c * made the error handling in udpv6_queue_rcv_skb consistent; to return `-1' on error on all error cases * consolidation of shared code [NET]: UDP-Lite Documentation and basic XFRM/Netfilter support The UDP-Lite patch further provides * API documentation for UDP-Lite * basic xfrm support * basic netfilter support for IPv4 and IPv6 (LOG target) Signed-off-by: Gerrit Renker <gerrit@erg.abdn.ac.uk> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PATCH] for_each_possible_cpu: network codesKAMEZAWA Hiroyuki2006-04-11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | for_each_cpu() actually iterates across all possible CPUs. We've had mistakes in the past where people were using for_each_cpu() where they should have been iterating across only online or present CPUs. This is inefficient and possibly buggy. We're renaming for_each_cpu() to for_each_possible_cpu() to avoid this in the future. This patch replaces for_each_cpu with for_each_possible_cpu under /net Signed-off-by: KAMEZAWA Hiroyuki <kamezawa.hiroyu@jp.fujitsu.com> Acked-by: "David S. * [PATCH] percpu data: only iterate over possible CPUsEric Dumazet2006-02-05
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | percpu_data blindly allocates bootmem memory to store NR_CPUS instances of cpudata, instead of allocating memory only for possible cpus. As a preparation for changing that, we need to convert various 0 -> NR_CPUS loops to use for_each_cpu(). (The above only applies to users of asm-generic/percpu.h. powerpc has gone it alone and is presently only allocating memory for present CPUs, so it's currently corrupting memory). * [NET]: Wider use of for_each_*cpu()John Hawkes2005-10-25
| | | | | | | | | | | | | In 'net' change the explicit use of for-loops and NR_CPUS into the general for_each_cpu() or for_each_online_cpu() constructs, as appropriate. This widens the scope of potential future optimizations of the general constructs, as well as takes advantage of the existing optimizations of first_cpu() and next_cpu(), which is advantageous when the true CPU count is much smaller than NR_CPUS. * Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds2005-04-16
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
