| | | | | | | | Similar to ethernet. Convert infrastructure and the one lone FDDI driver (for the one lone user of that hardware??). Compile tested only. Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@vyatta.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* net: '&' reduxAlexey Dobriyan2008-11-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | | I want to compile out proc_* and sysctl_* handlers totally and stub them to NULL depending on config options, however usage of & will prevent this, since taking adress of NULL pointer will break compilation. So, drop & in front of every ->proc_handler and every ->strategy handler, it was never needed in fact. Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * net: convert print_mac to %pMJohannes Berg2008-10-27
| | | | | | | | | | | | This converts pretty much everything to print_mac. There were a few things that had conflicts which I have just dropped for now, no harm done. I've built an allyesconfig with this and looked at the files that weren't built very carefully, but it's a huge patch. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: David S. | | | | | | | | | | Clean up the various different email addresses of mine listed in the code to a single current and valid address. As Dave says his network merges for 2.6.28 are now done this seems a good point to send them in where they won't risk disrupting real changes. | | | | | | | | | | | | All uses of list_for_each_rcu() can be profitably replaced by the easier-to-use list_for_each_entry_rcu(). | * rcu: split list.h and move rcu-protected lists into rculist.hFranck Bui-Huu2008-05-19
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Move rcu-protected lists from list.h into a new header file rculist.h. This is done because list are a very used primitive structure all over the kernel and it's currently impossible to include other header files in this list.h without creating some circular dependencies. For example, list.h implements rcu-protected list and uses rcu_dereference() without including rcupdate.h. It actually compiles because users of rcu_dereference() are macros. Others RCU functions could be used too but aren't probably because of this. Therefore this patch creates rculist.h which includes rcupdates without to many changes/troubles. * [TR]: Use ctl paths to register net/token-ring/ tablePavel Emelyanov2008-01-28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The same thing for token-ring - use ctl paths and get rid of external references on the tr_table. Unfortunately, I couldn't split this patch into cleanup and use-the-paths parts. As a lame excuse I can say, that the cleanup is just moving the tr_table from one file to another - closet to a single variable, that this ctl table tunes. Since the source file becomes empty after the move, I remove it. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

* [NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespaceEric W. Biederman2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The snap_rcv code reads 5 bytes so we should make sure that we have 5 bytes in the head before proceeding. * [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_mac_header()Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | For the places where we need a pointer to the mac header, it is still legal to touch skb->mac.raw directly if just adding to, subtracting from or setting it to another layer header. This one also converts some more cases to skb_reset_mac_header() that my regex missed as it had no spaces before nor after '=', ugh. * [SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_reset_mac_header(skb)Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo2007-04-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | For the common, open coded 'skb->mac.raw = skb->data' operation, so that we can later turn skb->mac.raw into a offset, reducing the size of struct sk_buff in 64bit land while possibly keeping it as a pointer on 32bit. * [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). * [PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 7Arjan van de Ven2007-02-12
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. * [NET]: Replace skb_pull/skb_postpull_rcsum with skb_pull_rcsumHerbert Xu2006-03-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | We're now starting to have quite a number of places that do skb_pull followed immediately by an skb_postpull_rcsum. We can merge these two operations into one function with skb_pull_rcsum. This makes sense since most pull operations on receive skb's need to update the checksum. I've decided to make this out-of-line since it is fairly big and the fast path where hardware checksums are enabled need to call csum_partial anyway. Since this is a brand new function we get to add an extra check on the len argument. As it is most callers of skb_pull ignore its return value which essentially means that there is no check on the len argument.
