* cpumask: change cpumask_of_cpu_ptr to use new cpumask_of_cpuMike Travis2008-07-26
| | | | | | | | | | | * Replace previous instances of the cpumask_of_cpu_ptr* macros with a the new (lvalue capable) generic cpumask_of_cpu(). * cpumask: Optimize cpumask_of_cpu in lib/smp_processor_id.cMike Travis2008-07-18
| | | | | | | | * Optimize various places where a pointer to the cpumask_of_cpu value will result in reducing stack pressure. Signed-off-by: Mike Travis <travis@sgi.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
* ftrace: debug smp_processor_id, use notrace preempt disableSteven Rostedt2008-05-23
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The debug smp_processor_id caused a recursive fault in debugging the irqsoff tracer. The tracer used a smp_processor_id in the ftrace callback, and this function called preempt_disable which also is traced. This caused a recursive fault (stack overload). Since using smp_processor_id without debugging on does not cause faults with the tracer (even when the tracer is wrong), the debug version should not cause a system reboot. This changes the debug_smp_processor_id to use the notrace versions of preempt_disable and enable. * ftrace: annotate core code that should not be tracedArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2008-05-23
| | | | | | | | | | | Mark with "notrace" functions in core code that should not be traced. The "notrace" attribute will prevent gcc from adding a call to ftrace on the annotated funtions. * [PATCH] fix missing includesTim Schmielau2005-10-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | I recently picked up my older work to remove unnecessary #includes of sched.h, starting from a patch by Dave Jones to not include sched.h from module.h. This reduces the number of indirect includes of sched.h by ~300. Another ~400 pointless direct includes can be removed after this disentangling (patch to follow later). However, quite a few indirect includes need to be fixed up for this. In order to feed the patches through -mm with as little disturbance as possible, I've split out the fixes I accumulated up to now (complete for i386 and x86_64, more archs to follow later) and post them before the real patch. This way this large part of the patch is kept simple with only adding #includes, and all hunks are independent of each other. So if any hunk rejects or gets in the way of other patches, just drop it. My scripts will pick it up again in the next round. * [PATCH] smp_processor_id() cleanupIngo Molnar2005-06-21
This patch implements a number of smp_processor_id() cleanup ideas that Arjan van de Ven and I came up with. The previous __smp_processor_id/_smp_processor_id/smp_processor_id API spaghetti was hard to follow both on the implementational and on the usage side. Some of the complexity arose from picking wrong names, some of the complexity comes from the fact that not all architectures defined __smp_processor_id. In the new code, there are two externally visible symbols: - smp_processor_id(): debug variant. - raw_smp_processor_id(): nondebug variant. Replaces all existing uses of _smp_processor_id() and __smp_processor_id(). Defined by every SMP architecture in include/asm-*/smp.h. There is one new internal symbol, dependent on DEBUG_PREEMPT: - debug_smp_processor_id(): internal debug variant, mapped to smp_processor_id(). Also, i moved debug_smp_processor_id() from lib/kernel_lock.c into a new lib/smp_processor_id.c file. All related comments got updated and/or clarified. I have build/boot tested the following 8 .config combinations on x86: {SMP,UP} x {PREEMPT,!PREEMPT} x {DEBUG_PREEMPT,!DEBUG_PREEMPT} I have also build/boot tested x64 on UP/PREEMPT/DEBUG_PREEMPT. (Other architectures are untested, but should work just fine.)
