| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add support for basic configuration of a connection quality monitoring to the nl80211 interface, and basic support for notifying about triggered monitoring events. Via this interface a user-space connection manager may configure and receive pre-warning events of deteriorating WLAN connection quality, and start preparing for roaming in advance, before the connection is already lost. An example usage of such a trigger is starting scanning for nearby AP's in an attempt to find one with better connection quality, and associate to it before the connection characteristics of the existing connection become too bad or the association is even lost, leading in a prolonged delay in connectivity. The interface currently supports only RSSI, but it could be later extended to include other parameters, such as signal-to-noise ratio, if need for that arises. The wl1271 has a feature which handles the connection monitor logic in hardware, basically sending periodically nullfunc frames and reporting to the host if AP is lost, after attempting to recover by sending probe-requests to the AP. Add support to mac80211 by adding a new flag IEEE80211_HW_CONNECTION_MONITOR which prevents conn_mon_timer from triggering during idle periods, and prevents sending probe-requests to the AP if beacon-loss is indicated by the hardware. This behavior changed after the off-channel changes. Now, the channel is not updated with the new HT params in enable_ht() - instead, it is now done when the scan work terminates. This results in the driver depending on stale information, defaulting to non-HT mode always. Fix this by passing the new channel type to the driver. 'addr' parameter for the ptrace system call encode the REGSET type (using the corresppnding NT_* type) and the 'data' parameter points to the struct iovec having the user buffer and the length of that buffer. struct iovec iov = { buf, len}; ret = ptrace(PTRACE_GETREGSET/PTRACE_SETREGSET, pid, NT_XXX_TYPE, &iov); On successful completion, iov.len will be updated by the kernel specifying how much the kernel has written/read to/from the user's iov.buf. x86 extended state registers are primarily exported using this interface. Looking at the memory layout saved by "xsave", one can't say which state is represented in the memory layout. This is because if a particular state is in init state, in the xsave hdr it can be represented by bit '0'. And hence we can't really say by the xsave header wether a state is in init state or the state is not saved in the memory layout. And hence the xsave memory layout available through this regset interface uses SW usable bytes [464..511] to convey what state is represented in the memory layout. First 8 bytes of the sw_usable_bytes[464..467] will be set to OS enabled xstate mask(which is same as the 64bit mask returned by the xgetbv's xCR0). The note NT_X86_XSTATE represents the extended state information in the core file, using the above mentioned memory layout. The current PMU callbacks do not distinguish between stop and release (i.e., stop + free the resource). Thus, a counter may be released, then it will be immediately re-acquired. Event scheduling will again take place with no guarantee to assign the same counter. On some processors, this may event yield to failure to assign the event back due to competion between cores. This patch is adding a new pair of callback to stop and restart a counter without actually release the underlying counter resource. On stop, the counter is stopped, its values saved and that's it. On start, the value is reloaded and counter is restarted (on x86, actual restart is delayed until perf_enable()). Using this mechanism we can verify reliabilty whether the content of a counter corresponds to an event. In staring at that code it made my head hurt, so I rewrote it in a hopefully simpler fashion. Its now fully symetric between tick and overflow driven adjustments and uses less data to boot. The only complication is that it basically wants to do a u128 division. The code approximates that in a rather simple truncate until it fits fashion, taking care to balance the terms while truncating. This version does not generate that sampling artefact.
