* net: cleanup unsigned to unsigned intEric Dumazet2012-04-15
| | | | | | | Use of "unsigned int" is preferred to bare "unsigned" in net tree. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <eric.dumazet@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* net: get rid of some pointless casts to sockaddrMaciej Żenczykowski2012-03-11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The following 4 functions: move_addr_to_kernel move_addr_to_user verify_iovec verify_compat_iovec are always effectively called with a sockaddr_storage. Make this explicit by changing their signature. This removes a large number of casts from sockaddr_storage to sockaddr. Signed-off-by: Maciej Żenczykowski <maze@google.com> Signed-off-by: David S. * net: Add sendmmsg socket system callAnton Blanchard2011-05-05
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds a multiple message send syscall and is the send version of the existing recvmmsg syscall. This is heavily based on the patch by Arnaldo that added recvmmsg. I wrote a microbenchmark to test the performance gains of using this new syscall: http://ozlabs.org/~anton/junkcode/sendmmsg_test.c The test was run on a ppc64 box with a 10 Gbit network card. The benchmark can send both UDP and RAW ethernet packets. 64B UDP batch pkts/sec 1 804570 2 872800 (+ 8 %) 4 916556 (+14 %) 8 939712 (+17 %) 16 952688 (+18 %) 32 956448 (+19 %) 64 964800 (+20 %) 64B raw socket batch pkts/sec 1 1201449 2 1350028 (+12 %) 4 1461416 (+22 %) 8 1513080 (+26 %) 16 1541216 (+28 %) 32 1553440 (+29 %) 64 1557888 (+30 %) We see a 20% improvement in throughput on UDP send and 30% on raw socket send. * net: fix compat_sys_recvmmsg parameter typeHeiko Carstens2009-12-11
| | | | | | | | | | compat_sys_recvmmsg has a compat_timespec parameter and not a timespec parameter. This way we also get rid of an odd cast. * net: Introduce recvmmsg socket syscallArnaldo Carvalho de Melo2009-10-13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Meaning receive multiple messages, reducing the number of syscalls and net stack entry/exit operations. Next patches will introduce mechanisms where protocols that want to optimize this operation will provide an unlocked_recvmsg operation. This takes into account comments made by: . Paul Moore: sock_recvmsg is called only for the first datagram, sock_recvmsg_nosec is used for the rest. . Caitlin Bestler: recvmmsg now has a struct timespec timeout, that works in the same fashion as the ppoll one. If the underlying protocol returns a datagram with MSG_OOB set, this will make recvmmsg return right away with as many datagrams (+ the OOB one) it has received so far. . Rémi Denis-Courmont & Steven Whitehouse: If we receive N < vlen datagrams and then recvmsg returns an error, recvmmsg will return the successfully received datagrams, store the error and return it in the next call. This paves the way for a subsequent optimization, sk_prot->unlocked_recvmsg, where we will be able to acquire the lock only at batch start and end, not at every underlying recvmsg call. * net: Make setsockopt() optlen be unsigned.David S. Miller2009-09-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | This provides safety against negative optlen at the type level instead of depending upon (sometimes non-trivial) checks against this sprinkled all over the the place, in each and every implementation. Based upon work done by Arjan van de Ven and feedback from Linus Torvalds. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* net: Use standard structures for generic socket address structures.YOSHIFUJI Hideaki2008-07-20

* net: Add compat support for getsockopt (MCAST_MSFILTER)David L Stevens2008-04-29
| | | | | | | | | | This patch adds support for getsockopt for MCAST_MSFILTER for both IPv4 and IPv6. It depends on the previous setsockopt patch, and uses the same method. * [NET]: Introduce SIOCGSTAMPNS ioctl to get timestamps with nanosec resolutionEric Dumazet2007-04-26
| | | | | | | | | | Now network timestamps use ktime_t infrastructure, we can add a new ioctl() SIOCGSTAMPNS command to get timestamps in 'struct timespec'. User programs can thus access to nanosecond resolution. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> CC: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: David S. * [PATCH] Fix 32bit sendmsg() flawAl Viro2005-09-08
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | When we copy 32bit ->msg_control contents to kernel, we walk the same userland data twice without sanity checks on the second pass. Second version of this patch: the original broke with 64-bit arches running 32-bit-compat-mode executables doing sendmsg() syscalls with unaligned CMSG data areas Another thing is that we use kmalloc() to allocate and sock_kfree_s() to free afterwards; less serious, but also needs fixing. * Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds2005-04-16
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
