Except for s390 and sparc64 all implementations of the sys_ipc are nearly identical. There are slight differences in the types of the parameters, where mips and powerpc as the only 64-bit architectures with sys_ipc use unsigned long for the "third" argument as it gets casted to a pointer later, while it traditionally is an "int" like most other paramters. frv goes even further and uses unsigned long for all parameters execept for "ptr" which is a pointer type everywhere. The change from int to unsigned long for "third" and back to "int" for the others on frv should be fine due to the in-register calling conventions for syscalls (we already had a similar issue with the generic sys_ptrace), but I'd prefer to have the arch maintainers looks over this in details. Except for that h8300, m68k and m68knommu lack an impplementation of the semtimedop sub call which this patch adds, and various architectures have gets used - at least on i386 it seems superflous as the compat code on x86-64 and ia64 doesn't even bother to implement it. The default value is 32 bytes, so if some structures are defined with a 4-byte alignment and others aren't declared with an alignment constraint at all - it will align at 32-bytes. For things like the ftrace events, this results in a non-standard array. When initializing the ftrace subsystem, we traverse the _ftrace_events section and call the initialization callback for each event. When the structures are misaligned, we could be treating another part of the structure (or the zeroed out space between them) as a function pointer. This patch forces the alignment for all the ftrace_event_call structures to 4 bytes. Without this patch, the kernel fails to boot very early when built with gcc 4.5. It's trivial to check the alignment of the members of the array, so it might be worthwhile to add something to the build system to do that automatically. Unfortunately, that only covers this case. I've asked one of the gcc developers about adding a warning when this condition is seen. If the underlying protocol returns a datagram with MSG_OOB set, this will make recvmmsg return right away with as many datagrams (+ the OOB one) it has received so far. . Rémi Denis-Courmont & Steven Whitehouse: If we receive N < vlen datagrams and then recvmsg returns an error, recvmmsg will return the successfully received datagrams, store the error and return it in the next call.
