* xtensa: move headers files to arch/xtensa/includeChris Zankel2008-11-06
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Move all header files for xtensa to arch/xtensa/include and platform and variant header files to the appropriate arch/xtensa/platforms/ and arch/xtensa/variants/ directories. Moving the files gets also rid of all uses of symlinks in the Makefile. This has been completed already for the majority of the architectures and xtensa is one out of six missing. * PAGE_ALIGN(): correctly handle 64-bit values on 32-bit architecturesAndrea Righi2008-07-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On 32-bit architectures PAGE_ALIGN() truncates 64-bit values to the 32-bit boundary. For example: u64 val = PAGE_ALIGN(size); always returns a value < 4GB even if size is greater than 4GB. The problem resides in PAGE_MASK definition (from include/asm-x86/page.h for example): #define PAGE_SHIFT 12 #define PAGE_SIZE (_AC(1,UL) << PAGE_SHIFT) #define PAGE_MASK (~(PAGE_SIZE-1)) ... #define PAGE_ALIGN(addr) (((addr)+PAGE_SIZE-1)&PAGE_MASK) The "~" is performed on a 32-bit value, so everything in "and" with PAGE_MASK greater than 4GB will be truncated to the 32-bit boundary. Using the ALIGN() macro seems to be the right way, because it uses typeof(addr) for the mask. Also move the PAGE_ALIGN() definitions out of include/asm-*/page.h in include/linux/mm.h. * CONFIG_HIGHPTE vs. sub-page page tables.Martin Schwidefsky2008-02-08
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Background: I've implemented 1K/2K page tables for s390. These sub-page page tables are required to properly support the s390 virtualization instruction with KVM. The SIE instruction requires that the page tables have 256 page table entries (pte) followed by 256 page status table entries (pgste). The pgstes are only required if the process is using the SIE instruction. The pgstes are updated by the hardware and by the hypervisor for a number of reasons, one of them is dirty and reference bit tracking. To avoid wasting memory the standard pte table allocation should return 1K/2K (31/64 bit) and 2K/4K if the process is using SIE. Problem: Page size on s390 is 4K, page table size is 1K or 2K. That means the s390 version for pte_alloc_one cannot return a pointer to a struct page. Trouble is that with the CONFIG_HIGHPTE feature on x86 pte_alloc_one cannot return a pointer to a pte either, since that would require more than 32 bit for the return value of pte_alloc_one (and the pte * would not be accessible since its not kmapped). Solution: The only solution I found to this dilemma is a new typedef: a pgtable_t. For s390 pgtable_t will be a (pte *) - to be introduced with a later patch. For everybody else it will be a (struct page *). The additional problem with the initialization of the ptl lock and the NR_PAGETABLE accounting is solved with a constructor pgtable_page_ctor and a destructor pgtable_page_dtor. The page table allocation and free functions need to call these two whenever a page table page is allocated or freed. pmd_populate will get a pgtable_t instead of a struct page pointer. To get the pgtable_t back from a pmd entry that has been installed with pmd_populate a new function pmd_pgtable is added. It replaces the pmd_page call in free_pte_range and apply_to_pte_range. * Cleanup asm/{elf,page,user}.h: #ifdef __KERNEL__ is no longer neededKirill A. Shutemov2008-02-07
| | | | | | | | | | | | | asm/elf.h, asm/page.h and asm/user.h don't export to userspace now, so we can drop #ifdef __KERNEL__ for them. * [XTENSA] Add support for cache-aliasingChris Zankel2007-08-27
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Add support for processors that have cache-aliasing issues, such as the Stretch S5000 processor. Cache-aliasing means that the size of the cache (for one way) is larger than the page size, thus, a page can end up in several places in cache depending on the virtual to physical translation. The method used here is to map a user page temporarily through the auto-refill way 0 and of of the DTLB. We probably will want to revisit this issue and use a better approach with kmap/kunmap. * [XTENSA] Use the generic version of get_orderChris Zankel2007-08-27

* [XTENSA] clean-up header filesChris Zankel2007-05-31
| | | | | | | | | | The header files in the asm-xtensa directory are not clean and 'make headers_check' fails. This is a first patch to fix most of the header files. It removes unnecessary include statements and adds some that are required for building the kernel. The linker script required some updates or the linking stage would fail. * [PATCH] xtensa: remove extra header filesChris Zankel2006-12-10
| | | | | | | | | | | The Xtensa port contained many header files that were never needed. This rather lengthy patch removes all those files. Unfortunately, there were many dependencies that needed to be updated, so this patch touches quite a few source files.
