* asm-*/posix_types.h: scrub __GLIBC__Mike Frysinger2008-02-08
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Some arches (like alpha and ia64) already have a clean posix_types.h header. This brings all the others in line by removing all references to __GLIBC__ (and some undocumented __USE_ALL). * Fix m32r __xchgMathieu Desnoyers2008-02-07
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | the #endif /* CONFIG_SMP */ should cover the default condition, or it may cause bad parameter to be silently missed. To make it work correctly, we have to remove the ifdef CONFIG SMP surrounding __xchg_called_with_bad_pointer declaration. Thanks to Adrian Bunk for detecting this. * New cmpxchg_local (optimized for UP case) for m32rMathieu Desnoyers2008-02-07
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add __xchg_local, xchg_local (define), __cmpxchg_local_u32, __cmpxchg_local, cmpxchg_local(macro). cmpxchg_local and cmpxchg64_local will use the architecture specific __cmpxchg_local_u32 for 32 bits arguments, and use the generic __cmpxchg_local_generic for 8, 16 and 64 bits arguments. * Sanitize the type of struct user.u_ar0H. Peter Anvin2008-02-07
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | struct user.u_ar0 is defined to contain a pointer offset on all architectures in which it is defined (all architectures which define an a.out format except SPARC.) However, it has a pointer type in the headers, which is pointless -- <asm/user.h> is not exported to userspace, and it just makes the code messy. Redefine the field as "unsigned long" (which is the same size as a pointer on all Linux architectures) and change the setting code to user offsetof() instead of hand-coded arithmetic. * Fix __const_udelay declaration and definition mismatchesJeff Dike2008-02-06
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The declaration and implementation of __const_udelay use different names for the parameter on a number of architectures: include/asm-avr32/delay.h:15:extern void __const_udelay(unsigned long usecs); arch/avr32/lib/delay.c:39:inline void __const_udelay(unsigned long xloops) include/asm-sh/delay.h:15:extern void __const_udelay(unsigned long usecs); arch/sh/lib/delay.c:22:inline void __const_udelay(unsigned long xloops) include/asm-m32r/delay.h:15:extern void __const_udelay(unsigned long usecs); arch/m32r/lib/delay.c:58:void __const_udelay(unsigned long xloops) include/asm-x86/delay.h:16:extern void __const_udelay(unsigned long usecs); arch/x86/lib/delay_32.c:82:inline void __const_udelay(unsigned long xloops) arch/x86/lib/delay_64.c:46:inline void __const_udelay(unsigned long xloops) The units of the parameter isn't usecs, so that name is definitely wrong. It's also not exactly loops, so I suppose xloops is an OK name. This patch changes these names from usecs to xloops. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | (with Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>) The pgd/pud/pmd/pte page table allocation functions get a mm_struct pointer as first argument. The free functions do not get the mm_struct argument. This is 1) asymmetrical and 2) to do mm related page table allocations the mm argument is needed on the free function as well. * Change table chaining layoutJens Axboe2007-10-22
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Change the page member of the scatterlist structure to be an unsigned long, and encode more stuff in the lower bits: - Bits 0 and 1 zero: this is a normal sg entry. Next sg entry is located at sg + 1. - Bit 0 set: this is a chain entry, the next real entry is at ->page_link with the two low bits masked off. - Bit 1 set: this is the final entry in the sg entry. sg_next() will return NULL when passed such an entry. It's thus important that sg table users use the proper accessors to get and set the page member. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>

* Add __GFP_MOVABLE for callers to flag allocations from high memory that may ↵Mel Gorman2007-07-17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | be migrated It is often known at allocation time whether a page may be migrated or not. This patch adds a flag called __GFP_MOVABLE and a new mask called GFP_HIGH_MOVABLE. Allocations using the __GFP_MOVABLE can be either migrated using the page migration mechanism or reclaimed by syncing with backing storage and discarding. An API function very similar to alloc_zeroed_user_highpage() is added for __GFP_MOVABLE allocations called alloc_zeroed_user_highpage_movable(). The flags used by alloc_zeroed_user_highpage() are not changed because it would change the semantics of an existing API. After this patch is applied there are no in-kernel users of alloc_zeroed_user_highpage() so it probably should be marked deprecated if this patch is merged. Note that this patch includes a minor cleanup to the use of __GFP_ZERO in shmem.c to keep all flag modifications to inode->mapping in the shmem_dir_alloc() helper function. This clean-up suggestion is courtesy of Hugh Dickens. Additional credit goes to Christoph Lameter and Linus Torvalds for shaping the concept. * dma-mapping: prevent dma dependent code from linking on !HAS_DMA archsDan Williams2007-07-16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Continuing the work started in 411f0f3edc141a582190d3605cadd1d993abb6df ... This enables code with a dma path, that compiles away, to build without requiring additional code factoring. It also prevents code that calls dma_alloc_coherent and dma_free_coherent from linking whereas previously the code would hit a BUG() at run time. Finally, it allows archs that set !HAS_DMA to delete their asm/dma-mapping.h file. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add the termios2 structure ready for enabling on most platforms. One or two like Sparc are plain weird so have been left alone. * m32r: fix switch_to macro to push/pop frame pointer if neededHirokazu Takata2007-05-11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch fixes a rarely-happened but severe scheduling problem of the recent m32r kernel of 2.6.17-rc3 or later. In the following previous m32r patch, the switch_to macro was modified not to do unnecessary push/pop operations for tuning. > [PATCH] m32r: update switch_to macro for tuning > 4127272c38619c56f0c1aa01d01c7bd757db70a1 In this modification, only 'lr' and 'sp' registers are push/pop'ed, assuming that the m32r kernel is always compiled with -fomit-frame-pointer option. However, in 2.6 kernel, kernel/sched.c is irregularly compiled with -fno-omit-frame-pointer if CONFIG_SCHED_NO_NO_OMIT_FRAME_POINTER is not defined. -- kernel/Makefile -- : ifneq ($(CONFIG_SCHED_NO_NO_OMIT_FRAME_POINTER),y) # According to Alan Modra <alan@linuxcare.com.au>, the -fno-omit-frame-pointer is # needed for x86 only. Why this used to be enabled for all architectures is beyond # me. I suspect most platforms don't need this, but until we know that for sure # I turn this off for IA-64 only. Andreas Schwab says it's also needed on m68k # to get a correct value for the wait-channel (WCHAN in ps). --davidm CFLAGS_sched.o := $(PROFILING) -fno-omit-frame-pointer endif : --- Therefore, for the recent m32r kernel, we have to push/pop 'fp' (frame pointer) if CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER is defined or CONFIG_SCHED_NO_NO_OMIT_FRAME_POINTER is not defined. * | Remove hardcoding of hard_smp_processor_id on UP systemsFernando Luis Vazquez Cao2007-05-09
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With the advent of kdump, the assumption that the boot CPU when booting an UP kernel is always the CPU with a particular hardware ID (often 0) (usually referred to as BSP on some architectures) is not valid anymore. The reason being that the dump capture kernel boots on the crashed CPU (the CPU that invoked crash_kexec), which may be or may not be that particular CPU. Move definition of hard_smp_processor_id for the UP case to architecture-specific code ("asm/smp.h") where it belongs, so that each architecture can provide its own implementation.
