* i386: fix early usage of atomic_add_return and local_add_return on real i386Thomas Gleixner2007-05-23
| | | | | | | | | | | | The check (boot_cpu_data.x86 == 3) in atomic_add_return() and local_add_return() fails, when those operations are used before boot_cpu_data is filled in. Change the check to (boot_cpu_data.x86 <= 3) to fix this. * i386: improve and correct inline asm memory constraintsLinus Torvalds2006-07-08
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Use "+m" rather than a combination of "=m" and "m" for improved clarity and consistency. This also fixes some inlines that incorrectly didn't tell the compiler that they read the old value at all, potentially causing the compiler to generate bogus code. It appear that all of those potential bugs were hidden by the use of extra "volatile" specifiers on the data structures in question, though. Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
* [PATCH] x86_64: Fix race in cpu_local_* on preemptible kernelsAndi Kleen2006-06-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | When a process changes CPUs while doing the non atomic cpu_local_* operations it might operate on the local_t of a different CPUs. Fix that by disabling preemption. * [PATCH] make local_t signedAndrew Morton2006-03-31
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | local_t's were defined to be unsigned. This increases confusion because atomic_t's are signed. The patch goes through and changes all implementations to use signed longs throughout. Also, x86-64 was using 32-bit quantities for the value passed into local_add() and local_sub(). Fixed. All (actually, both) existing users have been audited. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
