* [PATCH] do shrink_submounts() for all fs typesAl Viro2008-03-27
| | | | | | | | | ... and take it out of ->umount_begin() instances. Call with all locks already taken (by do_umount()) and leave calling release_mounts() to caller (it will do release_mounts() anyway, so we can just put into the same list). Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

* Embed a struct path into struct nameidata instead of nd->{dentry,mnt}Jan Blunck2008-02-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is the central patch of a cleanup series. In most cases there is no good reason why someone would want to use a dentry for itself. This series reflects that fact and embeds a struct path into nameidata. Together with the other patches of this series - it enforced the correct order of getting/releasing the reference count on <dentry,vfsmount> pairs - it prepares the VFS for stacking support since it is essential to have a struct path in every place where the stack can be traversed - it reduces the overall code size: without patch series: text data bss dec hex filename 5321639 858418 715768 6895825 6938d1 vmlinux with patch series: text data bss dec hex filename 5320026 858418 715768 6894212 693284 vmlinux This patch: Switch from nd->{dentry,mnt} to nd->path.{dentry,mnt} everywhere. * AFS: AFS fixupsDavid Howells2007-05-09
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Make some miscellaneous changes to the AFS filesystem: (1) Assert RCU barriers on module exit to make sure RCU has finished with callbacks in this module. (2) Correctly handle the AFS server returning a zero-length read. (3) Split out data zapping calls into one function (afs_zap_data). (4) Rename some afs_file_*() functions to afs_*() where they apply to non-regular files too. (5) Be consistent about the presentation of volume ID:vnode ID in debugging output. * mm: make read_cache_page synchronousNick Piggin2007-05-07
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Ensure pages are uptodate after returning from read_cache_page, which allows us to cut out most of the filesystem-internal PageUptodate calls. I didn't have a great look down the call chains, but this appears to fixes 7 possible use-before uptodate in hfs, 2 in hfsplus, 1 in jfs, a few in ecryptfs, 1 in jffs2, and a possible cleared data overwritten with readpage in block2mtd. All depending on whether the filler is async and/or can return with a !uptodate page. * [AFS]: Add security support.David Howells2007-04-26
| | | | | | | | | | Add security support to the AFS filesystem. Kerberos IV tickets are added as RxRPC keys are added to the session keyring with the klog program. open() and other VFS operations then find this ticket with request_key() and either use it immediately (eg: mkdir, unlink) or attach it to a file descriptor (open). * [AF_RXRPC]: Make the in-kernel AFS filesystem use AF_RXRPC.David Howells2007-04-26

* [AFS]: Clean up the AFS sourcesDavid Howells2007-04-26

* [PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau2007-02-14
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). * [PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 1Arjan van de Ven2007-02-12
| | | | | | | | | | | Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rename 'struct namespace' to 'struct mnt_namespace' to avoid confusion with other namespaces being developped for the containers : pid, uts, ipc, etc. 'namespace' variables and attributes are also renamed to 'mnt_ns' Signed-off-by: Kirill Korotaev <dev@sw.ru> Signed-off-by: Cedric Le Goater <clg@fr.ibm.com> Cc: Eric W. * [PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ constArjan van de Ven2006-03-28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
