A possible use-case for this is runtime-pm. In the first_io call pm_runtime_get() could be called, which starts an asynchronous runtime_resume of the device. In the deferred_io callback a call to pm_runtime_barrier() makes the sure, the device is resumed by then and a pm_runtime_put() may put the device back to sleep. Also, some SoCs may use the runtime-pm system to determine if they are able to enter deeper idle states. Therefore it is necessary to keep the use-count from the first written page until the conclusion of the screen update, to prevent the system from going to sleep before completing the pending update. Two users of defio were using kmalloc to allocate the structure. These allocations are changed to kzalloc, to prevent uninitialised .first_io members in those drivers. This control setting is used for DP TX PHY block to set the values as below. It is beneficial to improve analog characteristics. - TX terminal registor is 50 Ohm. - Reference clock of PHY is 24 MHz. - Power source for TX digital logic is 1.0625 V. - Power source for internal clock driver is 1.0625 V. - PLL VCO range setting is 600 uA. - Power down ring osc is turned off. - AUX terminal resistor is 50 Ohm. - AUX channel current is 8 mA and multiplied by 2. - TX channel output amplitude is 400 mV. The resolution of the window can be smaller than that of the lcd panel to which the video data is output. So move the video timing data from the per-window setup data to the platform specific section in the platform data. This also removes the restriction that atleast one window should have the same resolution as that of the panel attached. The block2mtd driver sets the '_writev' field to the 'mtd_writev' function itself and thus causes a endless loop. This is caused by 1dbebd32562b3c2caeca35960e5cb00bfcc12900 (mtd: harmonize mtd_writev usage). Remove the assignment from the block2mtd driver to fix the issue. Fix this behaviour by ensuring that if the previous read ended up in-between the 2 planes, there will be a first 1 byte read to get back to the beginning of leftmost plane. Note that 4-bit mode is only confirmed to work on OMAP3630 ES 1.x, x >= 1. The OMAP3 GPMC hardware BCH engine computes remainder polynomials, it does not provide automatic error location and correction: this step is implemented using the BCH library. This implementation only protects page data, there is no support for protecting user-defined spare area bytes (this could be added with few modifications); therefore, it cannot be used with YAFFS2 or other similar filesystems that depend on oob storage. Before being stored to nand flash, hardware BCH ecc is adjusted so that an erased page has a valid ecc; thus allowing correction of bitflips in blank pages (also common on 4-bit devices). BCH correction mode is selected at runtime by setting platform data parameter 'ecc_opt' to value OMAP_ECC_BCH4_CODE_HW or OMAP_ECC_BCH8_CODE_HW. This code has been tested with mtd test modules, UBI and UBIFS on a BeagleBoard revC3 (OMAP3530 ES3.0 + Micron NAND 256MiB 1,8V 16-bit). To reflect this, we should rework the nand_chip / nand_ecc_ctrl interfaces that assume that drivers will always read/write OOB data in the nand_chip.oob_poi buffer. A better interface includes a boolean argument that explicitly tells the callee when OOB data is requested by the calling layer (for reading/writing to/from nand_chip.oob_poi). This patch adds the 'oob_required' parameter to each relevant {read,write}_page interface; all 'oob_required' parameters are left unused for now. The next patch will set the parameter properly in the nand_base.c callers, and follow-up patches will make use of 'oob_required' in some of the callee functions. Note that currently, there is no harm in ignoring the 'oob_required' parameter and *always* utilizing nand_chip.oob_poi, but there can be performance/complexity/design benefits from avoiding filling oob_poi in the common case. I will try to implement this for some drivers which can be ported easily. Note: I couldn't compile-test all of these easily, as some had ARCH dependencies. MTD returns -EUCLEAN if this is >= bitflip_threshold, 0 otherwise. If bitflip_threshold is zero, the comparison is not made since these devices lack ECC and always return zero in the non-error case (thanks Brian)¹. Note that this is a subtle change to the driver interface.
