* [S390] cio: Make ccw_device_register() static.Cornelia Huck2006-10-27
| | | | | | | | | ccw_device_register() is only called from io_subchannel_register() and io_subchannel_probe() and will never be called for possible non-io subchannels. Signed-off-by: Cornelia Huck <cornelia.huck@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>
* [S390] Improve AP bus device removal.Ralph Wuerthner2006-10-27
| | | | | | | | | Added a call to device_unregister() in ap_scan_bus() to actively remove unavailable AP bus devices with every bus scan. Previously devices were only removed in ap_queue_message() or __ap_poll_all(). Signed-off-by: Ralph Wuerthner <rwuerthn@de.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

* | [S390] cio: Remove grace period for vary off chpid.Cornelia Huck2006-10-11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The grace period handling introduced needless complexity. It didn't help the dasd driver (which can handle terminated I/O just well), and it doesn't help for long running channel programs (which won't complete during the grace period anyway). Terminating I/O using a path that just disappeared immediately is much more consistent with what the user expects. * [PATCH] replace cad_pid by a struct pidCedric Le Goater2006-10-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are a few places in the kernel where the init task is signaled. The ctrl+alt+del sequence is one them. It kills a task, usually init, using a cached pid (cad_pid). This patch replaces the pid_t by a struct pid to avoid pid wrap around problem. The struct pid is initialized at boot time in init() and can be modified through systctl with /proc/sys/kernel/cad_pid [ I haven't found any distro using it ? ] It also introduces a small helper routine kill_cad_pid() which is used where it seemed ok to use cad_pid instead of pid 1. * [PATCH] const struct tty_operationsJeff Dike2006-10-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As part of an SMP cleanliness pass over UML, I consted a bunch of structures in order to not have to document their locking. One of these structures was a struct tty_operations. In order to const it in UML without introducing compiler complaints, the declaration of tty_set_operations needs to be changed, and then all of its callers need to be fixed. This patch declares all struct tty_operations in the tree as const. In all cases, they are static and used only as input to tty_set_operations. As an extra check, I ran an i386 allyesconfig build which produced no extra warnings. 53 drivers are affected. I checked the history of a bunch of them, and in most cases, there have been only a handful of maintenance changes in the last six months. serial_core.c was the busiest one that I looked at. * [PATCH] BLOCK: Make it possible to disable the block layer [try #6]David Howells2006-09-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Make it possible to disable the block layer. Not all embedded devices require it, some can make do with just JFFS2, NFS, ramfs, etc - none of which require the block layer to be present. This patch does the following: (*) Introduces CONFIG_BLOCK to disable the block layer, buffering and blockdev support. (*) Adds dependencies on CONFIG_BLOCK to any configuration item that controls an item that uses the block layer. This includes: (*) Block I/O tracing. (*) Disk partition code. (*) All filesystems that are block based, eg: Ext3, ReiserFS, ISOFS. (*) The SCSI layer. As far as I can tell, even SCSI chardevs use the block layer to do scheduling. Some drivers that use SCSI facilities - such as USB storage - end up disabled indirectly from this. (*) Various block-based device drivers, such as IDE and the old CDROM drivers. (*) MTD blockdev handling and FTL. (*) JFFS - which uses set_bdev_super(), something it could avoid doing by taking a leaf out of JFFS2's book. (*) Makes most of the contents of linux/blkdev.h, linux/buffer_head.h and linux/elevator.h contingent on CONFIG_BLOCK being set. sector_div() is, however, still used in places, and so is still available. (*) Also made contingent are the contents of linux/mpage.h, linux/genhd.h and parts of linux/fs.h. (*) Makes a number of files in fs/ contingent on CONFIG_BLOCK. (*) Makes mm/bounce.c (bounce buffering) contingent on CONFIG_BLOCK. (*) set_page_dirty() doesn't call __set_page_dirty_buffers() if CONFIG_BLOCK is not enabled. (*) fs/no-block.c is created to hold out-of-line stubs and things that are required when CONFIG_BLOCK is not set: (*) Default blockdev file operations (to give error ENODEV on opening). (*) Makes some /proc changes: (*) /proc/devices does not list any blockdevs. (*) /proc/diskstats and /proc/partitions are contingent on CONFIG_BLOCK. (*) Makes some compat ioctl handling contingent on CONFIG_BLOCK. (*) If CONFIG_BLOCK is not defined, makes sys_quotactl() return -ENODEV if given command other than Q_SYNC or if a special device is specified. (*) In init/do_mounts.c, no reference is made to the blockdev routines if CONFIG_BLOCK is not defined. This does not prohibit NFS roots or JFFS2. (*) The bdflush, ioprio_set and ioprio_get syscalls can now be absent (return error ENOSYS by way of cond_syscall if so). (*) The seclvl_bd_claim() and seclvl_bd_release() security calls do nothing if CONFIG_BLOCK is not set, since they can't then happen. * [PATCH] Split struct request ->flags into two partsJens Axboe2006-09-30
| | | | | | | | | | Right now ->flags is a bit of a mess: some are request types, and others are just modifiers. Clean this up by splitting it into ->cmd_type and ->cmd_flags. This allows introduction of generic Linux block message types, useful for sending generic Linux commands to block devices. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@suse.de>

* [S390] Inline assembly cleanup.Martin Schwidefsky2006-09-28
| | | | | | | | | | | | Major cleanup of all s390 inline assemblies. They now have a common coding style. Quite a few have been shortened, mainly by using register asm variables. Use of the EX_TABLE macro helps as well. The atomic ops, bit ops and locking inlines new use the Q-constraint if a newer gcc is used. That results in slightly better code. Thanks to Christian Borntraeger for proof reading the changes. Signed-off-by: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com>

* [SCSI] zfcp: fix: avoid removal of fsf reqs before qdio queues are downAndreas Herrmann2006-09-23
| | | | | | | | | | Fix the fix ... One of my previous fixes introduced removal of all fsf requests in zfcp's eh_host_reset_handler. But this must not happen before qdio queues are shut down. | | | | | | | | | | | zfcp's eh_abort_handler used the wrong request ID to identify the request to be aborted. * [S390] cio: subchannel evaluation function operates without lockPeter Oberparleiter2006-09-20

* [S390] cio: always query all paths on path verification.Peter Oberparleiter2006-09-20
| | | | | | | | | | | | Reappearing channel paths are sometimes not utilized by CCW devices because path verification incorrectly relies on path-operational-mask information which is not updated until a channel path has been used again. * [S390] cio: update path groups on logical CHPID changes.Peter Oberparleiter2006-09-20
| | | | | | | | | | | | CHPIDs that are logically varied off will not be removed from a CCW device's path group because resign-from-pathgroup command is issued with invalid path mask of 0 because internal CCW operations are masked by the logical path mask after the relevant bits are cleared by the vary operation.
