| * qeth: keep ip-address after LAN_OFFLINE failureUrsula Braun2008-04-16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: If setting of an ip-address fails with LAN_OFFLINE, qeth does not save the ip-address in its internal list of set ip-addresses. qeth recovers after a following STARTLAN event, but cannot set the unsaved ip-address. Solution: save the ip-address in the qeth-maintained list of ip-addresses after a LAN_OFFLINE failure for SETIP. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Symptom: slow CCL response time Problem: non-ETH_P_802_2 packets are not delivered to NDH for CCL. But CCL detects missing sequence numbers, which cause a serious performance problem with CCL. Solution: assign sequence numbers only to 802.2 packets. | * qeth: set lan_online flag after a received STARTLANUrsula Braun2008-04-16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Problem: A STARTLAN command from the adapter may arrive while a qeth recovery is currently running with a failed qeth STARTLAN. Usually qeth schedules a recovery when receiving a STARTLAN command from the adapter. But another recovery scheduled while a recovery is already running never starts. Thus the qeth-administered lan_online flag remains zero in this scenario, even though the adapter-STARTLAN has happened. Solution: Set lan_online flag for a received STARTLAN from the adapter in case scheduled recovery does not start. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | OSA-adapters do not have an address limitation for the qdio queue structures except the MAX storage level of the current processor. And due to a recent z/VM APAR there is no longer a restriction to allocate qdio structures below 2 GB. | * qeth: improve ip_list administration after deregister failuresUrsula Braun2008-04-16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | 1. ip_list handling after deregister failure of multicast address: If error code "MC Address not found" is returned do not re-add multicast address to ip_list. For other error codes readd multicast address at the end of function qeth_delete_all_mc. 2. ip_list handling after deregister failure or normal ip address: If error code "IP Address not found" is returned do not re-add multicast address to ip list. This is especially important in IP address takeover scenarios, to enable re-takeover of a taken over IP address. * [S390]: Fix use of skb after netif_rxJulia Lawall2007-12-11
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Recently, Wang Chen submitted a patch (d30f53aeb31d453a5230f526bea592af07944564) to move a call to netif_rx(skb) after a subsequent reference to skb, because netif_rx may call kfree_skb on its argument. netif_rx_ni calls netif_rx, so the same problem occurs in the files below. I have left the updating of dev->last_rx after the calls to netif_rx_ni because it seems time dependent, but moved the other field updates before. This was found using the following semantic match. (http://www.emn.fr/x-info/coccinelle/) // <smpl> @@ expression skb, e,e1; @@ ( netif_rx(skb); | netif_rx_ni(skb); ) ... when != skb = e ( skb = e1 | * skb ) // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: David S. | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently ctc-device initialization is broken (kernel bug in ctc_new_device). The new network namespace code reveals a deficiency of the ctc driver. * [S390] Fix smsgiucv init on no iucv machinesChristian Borntraeger2007-11-05
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | smsgiucv is a driver that relies on iucv to work properly. If iucv ans smsgiucv are compiled into the kernel and run on an lpar the following scenario happens: iucv is initialized early as a subsystem. It checks for z/VM and returns with EPROTONOTSUPPORT. Later smsgiucv tries to run driver_register with iucv_bus as bus. As this bus is not initialized the driver core and list debugging issue several warnings and oopses. Solution is to let smsgiucv also check for z/VM and return EPROTONOTSUPPORT as well. * lcs: Channel errors drive lcs_recovery which leads to kernel panic.Klaus D. Wacker2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | When the lcs irq routine detects channel failures it drives device recovery. After this event the device is no longer usable for shutdown requests, because the lcs_irq routine may get wrong channel status information. In such a case the lcs_irq routine marks the channel in 'error' state. The channel state comes back to 'running' after restarting the channels. Signed-off-by: Klaus D. * qeth: HiperSockets layer-3 interface drop non IPv4 or non IPv6 packetsKlaus D. Wacker2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | HiperSockets infrastructure (layer-3 mode) supports only IPv4 or IPv6 packets. Sending other packet types disturbs TCP/IP on z/VM, which issues messages about invalid packets. Qeth send routine will detect packet type on sending over a HiperSockets interface (in layer-3 mode) and drop non IP packets. The error and drop count of the interface is incremented. * qeth: Drop ARP packages on HiperSockets interface with NOARP attribute.Klaus D. Wacker2007-08-31
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | A network interface can get ARP packets even when the interface has NOARP specified. In a HiperSockets environment this disturbs receiving systems when packets are sent on the multicast queue. (E.g. TCP/IP on z/VM issues messages reporting invalid data on the HiperSockets interface.) Qeth will no longer send ARP packets on HiperSockets interface when interface has the NOARP attribute. Signed-off-by: Klaus D.
