* drivers/net/hamradio: Move a dereference below a NULL testJulia Lawall2008-12-16
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | In each case, if the NULL test is necessary, then the dereference should be moved below the NULL test. The semantic patch that makes this change is as follows: (http://www.emn.fr/x-info/coccinelle/) // <smpl> @@ type T; expression E; identifier i,fld; statement S; @@ - T i = E->fld; + T i; ... when != E when != i if (E == NULL) S + i = E->fld; // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: David S. | | | | | | | | | Since all the memory, which pointed by netdev->priv, are allocated in advance instead of by alloc_netdev(). Use netdev->ml_priv to point to those memory. Signed-off-by: Wang Chen <wangchen@cn.fujitsu.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.David S. Miller2008-11-04
| | | | | | | | | | | | | The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more. Some cases had to be skipped over because the drivers were making use of the ->last_rx value themselves. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* net: convert print_mac to %pMJohannes Berg2008-10-27
| | | | | | | | | | | | This converts pretty much everything to print_mac. There were a few things that had conflicts which I have just dropped for now, no harm done. I've built an allyesconfig with this and looked at the files that weren't built very carefully, but it's a huge patch. Signed-off-by: Johannes Berg <johannes@sipsolutions.net> Signed-off-by: David S. * netdev: Handle ->addr_list_lock just like ->_xmit_lock for lockdep.David S. Miller2008-07-22
| | | | | | | | | The new address list lock needs to handle the same device layering issues that the _xmit_lock one does. This integrates work done by Patrick McHardy. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* hdlcdrv: Fix CRC calculation.Micah Dowty2008-07-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | This is a trivial patch against the hdlcdrv module that fixes its CRC calculation. The finished CRC was overwriting the first two bytes of each packet rather than being appended to the end. I've tested this with 2.6.8 and 2.6.10-rc1, but hdlcdrv hasn't changed much recently so it should work with many other kernel versions. | * netdev: Allocate multiple queues for TX.David S. Miller2008-07-17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | alloc_netdev_mq() now allocates an array of netdev_queue structures for TX, based upon the queue_count argument. Furthermore, all accesses to the TX queues are now vectored through the netdev_get_tx_queue() and netdev_for_each_tx_queue() interfaces. This makes it easy to grep the tree for all things that want to get to a TX queue of a net device. Problem spots which are not really multiqueue aware yet, and only work with one queue, can easily be spotted by grepping for all netdev_get_tx_queue() calls that pass in a zero index. | * netdev: Add netdev->addr_list_lock protection.David S. Miller2008-07-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add netif_addr_{lock,unlock}{,_bh}() helpers. Use them to protect operations that operate on or read the network device unicast and multicast address lists. Also use them in cases where the code simply wants to block calls into the driver's ->set_rx_mode() and ->set_multicast_list() methods. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

For the moment the actual 'tty_ldisc' struct in the tty is kept as part of the tty struct but this can then be changed if it turns out that when it all settles down we want to refcount ldiscs separately to the tty. * | | net: Eliminate flush_scheduled_work() calls while RTNL is held.David S. Miller2008-06-12
| |/ |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | If the RTNL is held when we invoke flush_scheduled_work() we could deadlock. One such case is linkwatch, it is a work struct which tries to grab the RTNL semaphore. The most common case are net driver ->stop() methods. The simplest conversion is to instead use cancel_{delayed_}work_sync() explicitly on the various work struct the driver uses. This is an OK transformation because these work structs are doing things like resetting the chip, restarting link negotiation, and so forth. And if we're bringing down the device, we're about to turn the chip off and reset it anways. So if we cancel a pending work event, that's fine here. Some drivers were working around this deadlock by using a msleep() polling loop of some sort, and those cases are converted to instead use cancel_{delayed_}work_sync() as well. * [NET]: Make device event notification network namespace safeEric W. Biederman2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Every user of the network device notifiers is either a protocol stack or a pseudo device. If a protocol stack that does not have support for multiple network namespaces receives an event for a device that is not in the initial network namespace it quite possibly can get confused and do the wrong thing. To avoid problems until all of the protocol stacks are converted this patch modifies all netdev event handlers to ignore events on devices that are not in the initial network namespace. As the rest of the code is made network namespace aware these checks can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
* [NET]: Make packet reception network namespace safeEric W. Biederman2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch modifies every packet receive function registered with dev_add_pack() to drop packets if they are not from the initial network namespace. This should ensure that the various network stacks do not receive packets in a anything but the initial network namespace until the code has been converted and is ready for them. * [NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespaceEric W. Biederman2007-10-10
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace.
