* include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo2010-03-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. * V4L/DVB (11116): ov7670: cleanup and remove legacy code.Hans Verkuil2009-03-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | v4l2-i2c-drv-legacy.h and ov7670_command are no longer needed after the cafe driver is converted to use v4l2_subdev. Rather than using a large ov7670_control array, just call the handlers via a simple switch and use v4l2_ctrl_query_fill() to handle queryctrl. * i2c: Drop I2C_CLASS_CAM_DIGITALJean Delvare2009-01-07
| | | | | | | | There are a number of drivers which set their i2c bus class to I2C_CLASS_CAM_DIGITAL, however no chip driver actually checks for this flag, so we might as well drop it now. Signed-off-by: Jean Delvare <khali@linux-fr.org>
* V4L/DVB (10141): v4l2: debugging API changed to match against driver name ↵Hans Verkuil2009-01-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | instead of ID. Since the i2c driver ID will be removed in the near future we have to modify the v4l2 debugging API to use the driver name instead of driver ID. Note that this API is not used in applications other than v4l2-dbg.cpp as it is for debugging and testing only. Should anyone use the old VIDIOC_G_CHIP_IDENT, then this will be logged with a warning that it is deprecated and will be removed in 2.6.30. * V4L/DVB (8318): OV7670: don't reject unsupported settingsDaniel Drake2008-07-20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | For VIDIOC_G_FMT/VIDIOC_TRY_FMT, the V4L2 API spec states: "Drivers should not return an error code unless the input is ambiguous" "Very simple, inflexible devices may even ignore all input and always return the default parameters." "When the requested buffer type is not supported drivers return an EINVAL error code." i.e. returning errors for unsupported fields is bad, and it's ok to unconditionally overwrite user-requested settings This patch makes ov7670 meet that behaviour, and brings it in line with other drivers e.g. stk-webcam. It also fixes compatibility with (unpatched) gstreamer. * ov7670: clean up ov7670_read semanticsAndres Salomon2008-07-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Cortland Setlow pointed out a bug in ov7670.c where the result from ov7670_read() was just being checked for !0, rather than <0. This made me realize that ov7670_read's semantics were rather confusing; it both fills in 'value' with the result, and returns it. This is goes against general kernel convention; so rather than fixing callers, let's fix the function. This makes ov7670_read return <0 in the case of an error, and 0 upon success. Thus, code like: res = ov7670_read(...); if (!res) goto error; ..will work properly. * V4L/DVB (6079): Cleanup: remove linux/moduleparam.h from drivers/media filesMauro Carvalho Chehab2007-10-09
| | | | | | | Since at least kernel 2.6.12-rc2, module.h includes moduleparm.h. This patch removes all occurences of moduleparm.h from drivers/media files. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
* V4L/DVB (6027): Get rid of an ill-behaved msleep in i2c writeJonathan Corbet2007-08-20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Configuring the OLPC camera requires something over 150 register writes. Unfortunately, querying the CAFE i2c controller too soon after a write causes the hardware to flake. The problem had been "solved" with an msleep() call, but, between the number of registers and how msleep() behaves, that resulted in a 3-second delay on camera initialization. Instead, we hand-code a wait for the completion interrupt which avoids reading the status registers. * V4L/DVB (5691): Ov7670: reset clkrc in rgb565 modeJonathan Corbet2007-05-22
| | | | | | | | | | A bug in the ov7670 sensor causes it to introduce noise unless the CLKRC register is rewritten *after* setting the image mode. Naturally, resetting CLKRC in this way will cause other modes to fail. So carefully poke the register only when indicated. * V4L/DVB (5306): Add support for VIDIOC_G_CHIP_IDENTHans Verkuil2007-04-27
| | | | | | | | | | | VIDIOC_G_CHIP_IDENT improves debugging of card problems: it can be used to detect which chips are on the board and based on that information selected register dumps can be made, making it easy to debug complicated media chips containing tens or hundreds of registers. This ioctl replaces the internal VIDIOC_INT_G_CHIP_IDENT ioctl. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>
