* V4L/DVB (13557): v4l: Remove unneeded video_device::minor usage in driversLaurent Pinchart2009-12-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The video_device::minor field is used where it shouldn't, either to - test for error conditions that can't happen anymore with the current v4l-dvb core, - store the value in a driver private field that isn't used anymore, - check the video device type where video_device::vfl_type should be used, or - create the name of a kernel thread that should get a stable name. Remove or fix those use cases. Signed-off-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* V4L/DVB (13555): v4l: Use video_device_node_name() instead of the minor numberLaurent Pinchart2009-12-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | Instead of using the minor number in kernel log messages, use the device node name as returned by the video_device_node_name() function. This makes debug, informational and error messages easier to understand for end users. * V4L/DVB (13554a): v4l: Use the video_drvdata function in driversLaurent Pinchart2009-12-15
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix all device drivers to use the video_drvdata function instead of maintaining a local list of minor to private data mappings. Call video_set_drvdata to register the driver private pointer when not already done. Where applicable, the local list of mappings is completely removed when it becomes unused. * V4L/DVB (13550): v4l: Use the new video_device_node_name functionLaurent Pinchart2009-12-15
| | | | | | | | | | Fix all device drivers to use the new video_device_node_name function. This also strips kernel log messages from the "/dev/" prefix, has the device node location is a userspace policy decision unknown to the kernel. * V4L/DVB (10502): saa7146: move v4l2 device registration to saa7146_vv.Hans Verkuil2009-03-30
| | | | | | | | | Doing the v4l2_device registration in the saa7146 core will make it dependent on v4l2, even for DVB-only boards. This registration and unregistration belongs in saa7146_vv instead. * V4L/DVB (10313): saa7146: fix VIDIOC_ENUMSTD.Hans Verkuil2009-03-30
| | | | | | | | The previous conversion to video_ioctl2 broke VIDIOC_ENUMSTD. This is now fixed. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* V4L/DVB (10271): saa7146: convert to video_ioctl2.Hans Verkuil2009-03-30
| | | | | | | | The conversion to video_ioctl2 is the first phase to converting this driver to the latest v4l2 framework. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* V4L/DVB (10138): v4l2-ioctl: change to long return type to match unlocked_ioctl.Hans Verkuil2009-01-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Since internal to v4l2 the ioctl prototype is the same regardless of it being called through .ioctl or .unlocked_ioctl, we need to convert it all to the long return type of unlocked_ioctl. Thanks to Jean-Francois Moine for posting an initial patch for this and thus bringing it to our attention. * V4L/DVB (10135): v4l2: introduce v4l2_file_operations.Hans Verkuil2009-01-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Introduce a struct v4l2_file_operations for v4l2 drivers. Remove the unnecessary inode argument. Move compat32 handling (and llseek) into the v4l2-dev core: this is now handled in the v4l2 core and no longer in the drivers themselves. Note that this changeset reverts an earlier patch that changed the return type of__video_ioctl2 from int to long. This change will be reinstated later in a much improved version. * V4L/DVB (9503): v4l: remove inode argument from video_usercopyHans Verkuil2008-12-29
| | | | | | | | | The inode argument was never used. Removing it from video_usercopy brings the function pointer type of video_usercopy in line with similar v4l2 functions, thus simplifying several drivers. * V4L/DVB (9327): v4l: use video_device.num instead of minor in video%dHans Verkuil2008-10-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The kernel number of a v4l2 node (e.g. videoX, radioX or vbiX) is now independent of the minor number. So instead of using the minor field of the video_device struct one has to use the num field: this always contains the kernel number of the device node. I forgot about this when I did the v4l2 core change, so this patch converts all drivers that use it in one go. Luckily the change is trivial. * V4L/DVB (8786): v4l2: remove the priv field, use dev_get_drvdata insteadHans Verkuil2008-10-12
| | | | | | | | | | Remove the priv field and let video_get/set_drvdata use dev_get_drvdata and dev_set_drvdata instead. Convert all drivers that still used priv directly. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@redhat.com>
* V4L/DVB (8523): v4l2-dev: remove unused type and type2 field from video_deviceHans Verkuil2008-07-27
| | | | | | | | | The type and type2 fields were unused and so could be removed. Instead add a vfl_type field that contains the type of the video device. Signed-off-by: Hans Verkuil <hverkuil@xs4all.nl> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Video_device_alloc returns the result of a kzalloc. In this case, the value is stored in a local variable which is not copied elsewhere before the point of the error return (video_register_device does not save its first argument anywhere if it returns a negative value). Thus, a video_device_release it needed before the error return. The problem was found using the following semantic match. (http://www.emn.fr/x-info/coccinelle/) // <smpl> @@ type T,T1,T2; identifier E; statement S; expression x1,x2,x3; int ret; @@ T E; ... * E = video_device_alloc(...); if (E == NULL) S ... when != video_device_release(...,(T1)E,...) when != if (E != NULL) { ... video_device_release(...,(T1)E,...); ...} when != x1 = (T1)E when != E = x3; when any if (...) { ... when != video_device_release(...,(T2)E,...) when != if (E != NULL) { ... video_device_release(...,(T2)E,...); ...} when != x2 = (T2)E ( * return; | * return ret; ) } // </smpl> Signed-off-by: Julia Lawall <julia@diku.dk> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> CC: Oliver Endriss <o.endriss@gmx.de> CC: Michael Hunold <michael@mihu.de> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org>

* V4L/DVB (6252): Adapt drivers to use the newer videobuf modulesMauro Carvalho Chehab2007-10-09
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | PCI-dependent videobuf_foo methods were renamed as videobuf_pci_foo. Also, videobuf_dmabuf is now part of videobuf-dma-sg private struct. So, to access it, a subroutine call is needed. This patch renames all occurences of those function calls to be consistent with the video-buf split. * [PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 4Arjan van de Ven2007-02-12
| | | | | | | | | | | | Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
