* Combine instrumentation menus in kernel/Kconfig.instrumentationMathieu Desnoyers2007-10-19
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Quoting Randy: "It seems sad that this patch sources Kconfig.marker, a 7-line file, 20-something times. Yes, you (we) don't want to put those 7 lines into 20-something different files, so sourcing is the right thing. However, what you did for avr32 seems more on the right track to me: make _one_ Instrumentation support menu that includes PROFILING, OPROFILE, KPROBES, and MARKERS and then use (source) that in all of the arches." * [CELL] oprofile: add support to OProfile for profiling CELL BE SPUsBob Nelson2007-07-20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | From: Maynard Johnson <mpjohn@us.ibm.com> This patch updates the existing arch/powerpc/oprofile/op_model_cell.c to add in the SPU profiling capabilities. In addition, a 'cell' subdirectory was added to arch/powerpc/oprofile to hold Cell-specific SPU profiling code. Exports spu_set_profile_private_kref and spu_get_profile_private_kref which are used by OProfile to store private profile information in spufs data structures. Also incorporated several fixes from other patches (rrn). Check pointer returned from kzalloc. Eliminated unnecessary cast. Better error handling and cleanup in the related area. 64-bit unsigned long parameter was being demoted to 32-bit unsigned int and eventually promoted back to unsigned long. * [POWERPC] re-enable OProfile for iSeries, using timer interruptKelly Daly2006-06-21
| | | | | | | | | | | This patch removes the changes from an earlier patch that disables oProfile for iSeries within the oProfile KConfig (submitted Feb 23, 2006). Checks within the arch init for iSeries, still allowing profiling for timer interrupts (using firmware_has_feature). * [PATCH] powerpc: disable OProfile for iSeriesKelly Daly2006-02-23
| | | | | | | | Disable OProfile in Kconfig for iSeries to prevent hangs. OProfile was not originally intended to work with legacy iSeries. Signed-off-by: Kelly Daly <kelly@au.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
* [PATCH] Move Kprobes and Oprofile to "Instrumentation Support" menuPrasanna S Panchamukhi2005-11-07
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Andrew Morton suggested to move kprobes from kernel hacking menu, since kernel hacking menu is in-appropriate for the Kprobes. This patch moves Kprobes and Oprofile under instrumentation menu. (akpm: it's not a natural fit, but things like djprobes and the s390 guys' statistics library need a home) Signed-of-by: Prasanna S Panchamukhi <prasanna@in.ibm.com> Cc: Philippe Elie <phil.el@wanadoo.fr> Cc: John Levon <levon@movementarian.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
