* [PATCH] LOG2: Implement a general integer log2 facility in the kernelDavid Howells2006-12-08
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This facility provides three entry points: ilog2() Log base 2 of unsigned long ilog2_u32() Log base 2 of u32 ilog2_u64() Log base 2 of u64 These facilities can either be used inside functions on dynamic data: int do_something(long q) { ...; y = ilog2(x) ...; } Or can be used to statically initialise global variables with constant values: unsigned n = ilog2(27); When performing static initialisation, the compiler will report "error: initializer element is not constant" if asked to take a log of zero or of something not reducible to a constant. They treat negative numbers as unsigned. When not dealing with a constant, they fall back to using fls() which permits them to use arch-specific log calculation instructions - such as BSR on x86/x86_64 or SCAN on FRV - if available. | * [PATCH] relocatable kernel: Kallsyms generate relocatable symbolsEric W. Biederman2006-12-06
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Print the addresses of non-absolute symbols relative to _text so that ld will generate relocations. Allowing a relocatable kernel to relocate them. We can't actually use the symbol names because kallsyms includes static symbols that are not exported from their object files. Add the _text symbol definitions to the architectures which don't define it otherwise linker will fail. Signed-off-by: Eric W. * | [PATCH] m68knommu: switch 68360 to using rtc_timeGreg Ungerer2006-12-06
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Adds support for RTCs (through genrtc) for M68KNOMMU. Board-specific code will have to link the appropriate RTC driver to the mach_hwclk callback, at minimum. This patch switches the 68360 code over to using rtc_time. |/ | | | | | | | | | | The 523x timer TRR register is a full 32bits, the older register (on other ColdFire parts) was only 16 bits. Use the right type of __raw_read when accessing it. | | | | | | | | | The patch below corrects multiple occurances of "the the" typos across several files, both in source comments and KConfig files. There is no actual code changed, only text. * [PATCH] provide kernel_execve on all architecturesArnd Bergmann2006-10-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This adds the new kernel_execve function on all architectures that were using _syscall3() to implement execve. The implementation uses code from the _syscall3 macros provided in the unistd.h header file. I don't have cross-compilers for any of these architectures, so the patch is untested with the exception of i386. Most architectures can probably implement this in a nicer way in assembly or by combining it with the sys_execve implementation itself, but this should do it for now. * [PATCH] namespaces: add nsproxySerge E. Hallyn2006-10-02
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This patch adds a nsproxy structure to the task struct. Later patches will move the fs namespace pointer into this structure, and introduce a new utsname namespace into the nsproxy. The vserver and openvz functionality, then, would be implemented in large part by virtualizing/isolating more and more resources into namespaces, each contained in the nsproxy. * [PATCH] kill wall_jiffiesAtsushi Nemoto2006-10-01
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With 2.6.18-rc4-mm2, now wall_jiffies will always be the same as jiffies. So we can kill wall_jiffies completely. This is just a cleanup and logically should not change any real behavior except for one thing: RTC updating code in (old) ppc and xtensa use a condition "jiffies - wall_jiffies == 1". This condition is never met so I suppose it is just a bug. I just remove that condition only instead of kill the whole "if" block. * [PATCH] simplify update_times (avoid jiffies/jiffies_64 aliasing problem)Atsushi Nemoto2006-09-29
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Pass ticks to do_timer() and update_times(), and adjust x86_64 and s390 timer interrupt handler with this change. Currently update_times() calculates ticks by "jiffies - wall_jiffies", but callers of do_timer() should know how many ticks to update. Passing ticks get rid of this redundant calculation. Also there are another redundancy pointed out by Martin Schwidefsky. This cleanup make a barrier added by 5aee405c662ca644980c184774277fc6d0769a84 needless. So this patch removes it. As a bonus, this cleanup make wall_jiffies can be removed easily, since now wall_jiffies is always synced with jiffies. (This patch does not really remove wall_jiffies. It would be another cleanup patch) Signed-off-by: Atsushi Nemoto <anemo@mba.ocn.ne.jp> Cc: Martin Schwidefsky <schwidefsky@de.ibm.com> Cc: "Eric W. * | [PATCH] m68knommu: remove fixed ROM region setups from linker scriptGreg Ungerer2006-06-28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove the hard coded ROM region setups. Use Kconfig options to specify these in a generic way for platorms that want them. This builds on top of the other recent m68knommu linker script changes to completely remove fixed board configurations. * | [PATCH] m68knommu: configuration options for ROM regionGreg Ungerer2006-06-28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Use Kconfig options to setup the optional ROM region used on some platforms. We used to define this in the linker script on a per board basis. The configure options are more flexible and clean up the linker script a lot. Signed-off-by: Greg Ungerer <gerg@uclinux.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
