* remove unneeded #include <linux/ide.h>'sAdrian Bunk2008-08-05
| | | | | | | | | | | This patch remove unneeded #include <linux/ide.h>'s. It also adds a required #include <linux/interrupt.h> that was previously implicitely pulled by ide.h Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@kernel.org> [bart: revert change to tests/lkdtm.c (spotted by Stephen Rothwell)] Signed-off-by: Bartlomiej Zolnierkiewicz <bzolnier@gmail.com>
* m68k: use generic show_mem()Johannes Weiner2008-07-26
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Remove arch-specific show_mem() in favor of the generic version. This also removes the following redundant information display: - free pages, printed by show_free_areas() - pages in swapcache, printed by show_swap_cache_info() where show_mem() calls show_free_areas(), which calls show_swap_cache_info(). * PAGE_ALIGN(): correctly handle 64-bit values on 32-bit architecturesAndrea Righi2008-07-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | On 32-bit architectures PAGE_ALIGN() truncates 64-bit values to the 32-bit boundary. For example: u64 val = PAGE_ALIGN(size); always returns a value < 4GB even if size is greater than 4GB. The problem resides in PAGE_MASK definition (from include/asm-x86/page.h for example): #define PAGE_SHIFT 12 #define PAGE_SIZE (_AC(1,UL) << PAGE_SHIFT) #define PAGE_MASK (~(PAGE_SIZE-1)) ... #define PAGE_ALIGN(addr) (((addr)+PAGE_SIZE-1)&PAGE_MASK) The "~" is performed on a 32-bit value, so everything in "and" with PAGE_MASK greater than 4GB will be truncated to the 32-bit boundary. Using the ALIGN() macro seems to be the right way, because it uses typeof(addr) for the mask. Also move the PAGE_ALIGN() definitions out of include/asm-*/page.h in include/linux/mm.h. * mm: drop unneeded pgdat argument from free_area_init_node()Johannes Weiner2008-07-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | free_area_init_node() gets passed in the node id as well as the node descriptor. This is redundant as the function can trivially get the node descriptor itself by means of NODE_DATA() and the node's id. I checked all the users and NODE_DATA() seems to be usable everywhere from where this function is called. * mm: move bootmem descriptors definition to a single placeJohannes Weiner2008-07-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | There are a lot of places that define either a single bootmem descriptor or an array of them. Use only one central array with MAX_NUMNODES items instead. * arch/m68k/mm/sun3mmu.c: Eliminate NULL test and memset after alloc_bootmemJulia Lawall2008-07-20
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | As noted by Akinobu Mita in patch b1fceac2b9e04d278316b2faddf276015fc06e3b, alloc_bootmem and related functions never return NULL and always return a zeroed region of memory. Thus a NULL test or memset after calls to these functions is unnecessary. This was fixed using the following semantic patch. * unified (weak) sys_pipe implementationUlrich Drepper2008-05-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | This replaces the duplicated arch-specific versions of "sys_pipe()" with one unified implementation. This removes almost 250 lines of duplicated code. It's marked __weak, so that *if* an architecture wants to override the default implementation it can do so by simply having its own replacement version, since many architectures use alternate calling conventions for the 'pipe()' system call for legacy reasons (ie traditional UNIX implementations often return the two file descriptors in registers) I still haven't changed the cris version even though Linus says the BKL isn't needed. The arch maintainer can easily do it if there are really no obstacles. Signed-off-by: Ulrich Drepper <drepper@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
* m68k: Export empty_zero_page for ZERO_PAGE usage in modules.Aneesh Kumar K.V2008-04-29
| | | | | | | | | ext4 uses ZERO_PAGE(0) to zero out blocks. We need to export different symbols in different arches for the usage of ZERO_PAGE in modules. Signed-off-by: Aneesh Kumar K.V <aneesh.kumar@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: "Theodore Ts'o" <tytso@mit.edu>

* proc: remove /proc/mac_iopAlexey Dobriyan2008-04-29

* proc: remove proc_root from driversAlexey Dobriyan2008-04-29
| | | | | | | | | | | | Remove proc_root export. Creation and removal works well if parent PDE is supplied as NULL -- it worked always that way. So, one useless export removed and consistency added, some drivers created PDEs with &proc_root as parent but removed them as NULL and so on. * m68k: remove redundant display of free swap space in show_mem()Johannes Weiner2008-04-28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | show_mem() has no need to print the amount of free swap space manually because show_free_areas() does this already and is called by the former. The two outputs only differ in text formatting: printk("Free swap = %lukB\n", ...); printk("Free swap: %6ldkB\n", ...); Signed-off-by: Johannes Weiner <hannes@saeurebad.de> Cc: Geert Uytterhoeven <geert@linux-m68k.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
* arch: Remove unnecessary inclusions of asm/semaphore.hMatthew Wilcox2008-04-18
| | | | | | | | | None of these files use any of the functionality promised by asm/semaphore.h. It's possible that they rely on it dragging in some unrelated header file, but I can't build all these files, so we'll have fix any build failures as they come up. * Generic semaphore implementationMatthew Wilcox2008-04-17
| | | | | | | | | | | Semaphores are no longer performance-critical, so a generic C implementation is better for maintainability, debuggability and extensibility. Thanks to Peter Zijlstra for fixing the lockdep warning. Thanks to Harvey Harrison for pointing out that the unlikely() was unnecessary.
