"call" is an argument of macro, but it is also used as a local
variable name of function in macro.
We should keep this local variable name distinct from any
CPP macro parameter name if both are in the same macro scope,
although it hasn't caused any problem yet.

s390 code uses smp_processor_id() in __raw_spin_lock() code which
reveals that a (raw) spinlock is taken without preemption disabled.
This can potentially deadlock.
To fix this explicitly disable and enable preemption.

The recording of the names at trace time is inefficient. This patch
implements the softirq event recording to only record the vector
and then use the __print_symbolic interface to print out the names.

This patch adds __print_symbolic which is similar to __print_flags but
works for an enumeration type instead. That is, there is only a one to one
mapping between the values and the symbols. When a match is made, then
it is printed, otherwise the hex value is outputed.

This patch changes the output for gfp_flags from being a simple hex value
to the actual names.
gfp_flags=GFP_ATOMIC instead of gfp_flags=00000020
And even
gfp_flags=GFP_KERNEL instead of gfp_flags=000000d0
(Thanks to Frederic Weisbecker for pointing out that the first version
had a bad order of GFP masks)

Developers have been asking for the ability in the ftrace event tracer
to display names of bits in a flags variable.
Instead of printing out c2, it would be easier to read FOO|BAR|GOO,
assuming that FOO is bit 1, BAR is bit 6 and GOO is bit 7.
Some examples where this would be useful are the state flags in a context
switch, kmalloc flags, and even permision flags in accessing files.
[
v2 changes include:
Frederic Weisbecker's idea of using a mask instead of bits,
thus we can output GFP_KERNEL instead of GPF_WAIT|GFP_IO|GFP_FS.
Li Zefan's idea of allowing the caller of __print_flags to add their
own delimiter (or no delimiter) where we can get for file permissions
rwx instead of r|w|x.
]

v3 changes:
Christoph Hellwig's idea of using an array instead of va_args.

If we enable a trace event alone without any tracer running (such as
function tracer, sched switch tracer, etc...) it can't output enough
task command information.
We need to use the tracing_{start/stop}_cmdline_record() helpers
which are designed to keep track of cmdlines for any tasks that
were scheduled during the tracing.

When defining a dynamic size string, we add __str_loc_##item to the
trace entry, and it stores the location of the actual string in
entry->_str_data[]
'unsigned short' should be sufficient to store this information, thus
we save 2 bytes per dyn-size string in the ring buffer.

I found that there is nothing to protect event_hash in
ftrace_find_event(). Rcu protects the event hashlist
but not the event itself while we use it after its extraction
through ftrace_find_event().
This lack of a proper locking in this spot opens a race
window between any event dereferencing and module removal.
Eg:
--Task A--
print_trace_line(trace) {
event = find_ftrace_event(trace)
--Task B--
trace_module_remove_events(mod) {
list_trace_events_module(ev, mod) {
unregister_ftrace_event(ev->event) {
hlist_del(ev->event->node)
list_del(....)
}
}
}
|--> module removed, the event has been dropped
--Task A--
event->print(trace); // Dereferencing freed memory
If the event retrieved belongs to a module and this module
is concurrently removed, we may end up dereferencing a data
from a freed module.
RCU could solve this, but it would add latency to the kernel and
forbid tracers output callbacks to call any sleepable code.
So this fix converts 'trace_event_mutex' to a read/write semaphore,
and adds trace_event_read_lock() to protect ftrace_find_event().

debugfs directory entries for devices are not removed on some
of the failure pathes in do_blk_trace_setup().
One way to reproduce is to start blktrace on multiple devices
with insufficient Vmalloc space: Devices will fail with
a message like this:
BLKTRACESETUP(2) /dev/sdu failed: 5/Input/output error
If so, the respective entries in debugfs
(e.g. /sys/kernel/debug/block/sdu) will remain and subsequent
attempts to start blktrace on the respective devices will not
succeed due to existing directories.

When an upstream port reports an AER error to root port, kernel
starts error recovery procedures. The default return value of
function pcie_portdrv_slot_reset is PCI_ERS_RESULT_NONE. If all
port service drivers of the downstream port under the upstream

would stop without resume. Below patch against 2.6.30-rc3 fixes it.

A remote device in security mode 3 that tries to connect will require
the pairing during the connection setup phase. The disconnect timeout
is now triggered within 10 milliseconds and causes the pairing to fail.
If a connection is not fully established and a PIN code request is
received, don't trigger the disconnect timeout. The either successful
or failing connection complete event will make sure that the timeout
is triggered at the right time.
The biggest problem with security mode 3 is that many Bluetooth 2.0
device and before use a temporary security mode 3 for dedicated
bonding.

The connection setup phase takes around 2 seconds or longer and in
that time it is possible that the need for an ACL connection is no
longer present. If that happens then, the connection attempt will
be canceled.
This only applies to outgoing connections, but currently it can also
be triggered by incoming connection. Don't call hci_acl_connect_cancel()
on incoming connection since these have to be either accepted or rejected
in this state. Once they are successfully connected they need to be
fully disconnected anyway.
Also remove the wrong hci_acl_disconn() call for SCO and eSCO links
since at this stage they can't be disconnected either, because the
connection handle is still unknown.

The module refcount is increased by hci_dev_hold() call in hci_conn_add()
and decreased by hci_dev_put() call in del_conn(). In case the connection
setup fails, hci_dev_put() is never called.
Procedure to reproduce the issue:
# hciconfig hci0 up
# lsmod | grep btusb -> "used by" refcount = 1
# hcitool cc <non-exisiting bdaddr> -> will get timeout
# lsmod | grep btusb -> "used by" refcount = 2
# hciconfig hci0 down
# lsmod | grep btusb -> "used by" refcount = 1
# rmmod btusb -> ERROR: Module btusb is in use
The hci_dev_put() call got moved into del_conn() with the 2.6.25 kernel
to fix an issue with hci_dev going away before hci_conn. However that
change was wrong and introduced this problem.
When calling hci_conn_del() it has to call hci_dev_put() after freeing
the connection details. This handling should be fully symmetric. The
execution of del_conn() is done in a work queue and needs it own calls
to hci_dev_hold() and hci_dev_put() to ensure that the hci_dev stays
until the connection cleanup has been finished.

This allows userlevel code to discover the pipe number corresponding
to a given CRTC ID. This is necessary for doing pipe-specific
operations such as waiting for vblank on a given CRTC. Failure to use
the right pipe mapping can result in GPU hangs, or at least failure
to actually sync to vblank.

We detect HDMI output connection status by writing to HOT Plug Interrupt
Detect Enable bit in PORT_HOTPLUG_EN. The behavior will generate a specified
interrupt, which is caught by audio driver, but during one detection driver
set all Detect Enable bits of HDMIB, HDMIC HDMID, and generate wrong
interrupt signals for current output, according to the signals audio driver
misunderstand device status. The patch intends to handle corresponding
output precisely.

There are a number of small form factor desktop systems with Intel mobile
graphics chips that lie and say they have an LVDS. With kernel mode-setting,
this becomes a problem, and makes native resolution boot go haywire -- for
example, my Dell Studio Hybrid, hooked to a 1920x1080 display claims to
have a 1024x768 LVDS, and the resulting graphical boot on the 1920x1080
display uses only the top left 1024x768, and auto-configured X will end
up only 1024x768 as well. With this change, graphical boot and X
both do 1920x1080 as expected.
Note that we're simply embracing and extending the early bail-out code
in place for the Mac Mini here. The xorg intel driver uses pci subsystem
device and vendor id for matching, while we're using dmi lookups here.

We might sleep here anyway so I hope an extra uncached read is ok to
add.
In #20896 we found that vbetool clobbers the IER. In KMS mode this is
particularly bad since we don't set the interrupt regs late (in
EnterVT), so we'd fail to get *any* interrupts at all after X started
(since some distros have scripts that call vbetool at X startup
apparently).
So this patch checks IER at wait_request time, and re-enables
interrupts if it's been clobbered. In a proper config this check
should never be triggered.
This is really a distro issue, but having a sanity check is nice, as
long as it doesn't have a real performance hit.

This patch provides new heuristics for parsing both the form factor and
media rotation rate ATA IDENFITY words.
The reported ATA version must be 7 or greater and the device must return
values defined as valid in the standard. Only then are the
characteristics reported to SCSI via the VPD B1 page.
This seems like a reasonable compromise to me considering that we have
been shipping several kernel releases that key off the rotation rate bit
without any version checking whatsoever. With no complaints so far.

This fixes a non-theoretical race condition when transmitting and
receiving frames during a scan. If the channel or operating band
changes while processing status descriptors in the tasklets, ath5k
will incorrectly use the new channel and band when reporting the
rates, even if the frame was actually sent on a previous channel.
Typically this will manifest as a beacon found on an incorrect
frequency and/or a warning in the driver while scanning:
