- Allow creation and mounting of devtmpfs, which is used
by OpenEmbedded root filesystems among others.
- Enable CPUidle for the ux500, it has been accidentally
disabled due to a Kconfig change.

With the commit d3f2950f2adeea3da0317e952914b59adaa4cdb3, the option
ARM_U8500_CPUIDLE was added to the Kconfig but not reflected in the
default config file, hence the cpuidle driver is no longer enabled
since this commit.
Enable it again by adding the missing option in the default config file.

This patch enables CONFIG_DETTMPFS and CONFIG_DEVTMPFS_MOUNT
flags for u8500 based devices.
In this way it's possible to create a tmpfs/ramfs already in the
early stages of the boot, allowing programs like udev/mdev to
populate the /dev directory.

This reverts commit 49c129519a7a8840767321c38d2eaf84a263529b.
The special settings for the SD/MMC card parameters that are not
yet fully agreed upon how to encode into the device tree went missing
with this commit. We need to first put it into the device tree,
and then remove the platform data.

This commit stopped tying down the name of the MMC/SD devices, but these
names are used in the pin control table, so the MMC/SD cards stopped
working.

When building a 64bit kernel sometimes functions in the .init section were not
able to reach the standard kernel function. Main reason for this problem is,
that the linkage tables (.plt, .opd, .dlt) tend to become pretty huge and thus
the distance gets too big for short calls.
One option to avoid this is to use the -mlong-calls compiler option, but this
increases the binary size and introduces a performance penalty.
Instead, with this patch we just lay out the binary differently. Init code is
stored first, followed by text, R/O and finally R/W data. This means, that init
and text code is now much closer to each other, which is sufficient to reach
each other by short calls.

If architectures don't support SERIAL_PORT_DFNS, they need not define it
to "nothing", the related drivers need do it by themselves (e.g. 8250
serial driver).

locale-gen on Debian showed a strange problem on parisc:
mmap2(NULL, 536870912, PROT_NONE, MAP_SHARED, 3, 0) = 0x42a54000
mmap2(0x42a54000, 103860, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED|MAP_FIXED, 3, 0) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument)
Basically it was just trying to re-mmap() a file at the same address
which it was given by a previous mmap() call. But this remapping failed
with EINVAL.
The problem is, that when MAP_FIXED and MAP_SHARED flags were used, we didn't
included the mapping-based offset when we verified the alignment of the given
fixed address against the offset which we calculated it in the previous call.

Direct decompression into the page cache. If we fall back
to using an intermediate buffer (because we cannot grab all the
page cache pages) and we get a decompress fail, we forgot to
release the pages.

Commit d8a32ac25698cd60b02bed2100379803c7f964e3 (crypto: testmgr - make
test_aead also test 'dst != src' code paths) added support for different
source and destination buffers in test_aead.
This patch modifies the source and destination buffer lengths accordingly:
the lengths are not equal since encryption / decryption adds / removes
the ICV.

There are cases when cryptlen can be zero in crypto_ccm_auth():
-encryptiom: input scatterlist length is zero (no plaintext)
-decryption: input scatterlist contains only the mac
plus the condition of having different source and destination buffers
(or else scatterlist length = max(plaintext_len, ciphertext_len)).
These are not handled correctly, leading to crashes like:

Some s390 crypto algorithms incorrectly use the crypto_tfm structure to
store private data. As the tfm can be shared among multiple threads, this
can result in data corruption.
This patch fixes aes-xts by moving the xts and pcc parameter blocks from
the tfm onto the stack (48 + 96 bytes).

The scatterwalk_crypto_chain function invokes the scatterwalk_sg_chain
function to chain two scatterlists, but the chain pointer indication
bit is not set. When the resulting scatterlist is used, for example,
by sg_nents to count the number of scatterlist entries, a segfault occurs
because sg_nents does not follow the chain pointer to the chained scatterlist.
Update scatterwalk_sg_chain to set the chain pointer indication bit as is
done by the sg_chain function.

When performing an asynchronous ablkcipher operation the authenc
completion callback routine is invoked, but it does not locate and use
the proper IV.
The callback routine, crypto_authenc_encrypt_done, is updated to use
the same method of calculating the address of the IV as is done in
crypto_authenc_encrypt function which sets up the callback.

If CONFIG_NO_HZ=n tick_nohz_get_sleep_length() returns NSEC_PER_SEC/HZ.
If CONFIG_NO_HZ=y and the nohz functionality is disabled via the
command line option "nohz=off" or not enabled due to missing hardware
support, then tick_nohz_get_sleep_length() returns 0. That happens
because ts->sleep_length is never set in that case.
Set it to NSEC_PER_SEC/HZ when the NOHZ mode is inactive.

Pavel Machek reports that this config is exposed on x86 where the

The timer code for at91rm9200 was already converted some time ago by
Shawn Guo in commit 838a2ae (ARM: use clockevents_config_and_register()
where possible) but because of a rounding issue in the timer core this
resulted in an easily reproducible oops. So it was reverted (commit
b7a8ca5 (ARM: at91: rm9200 fix time support)) which stopped the oops
from happening because min_delta_ns is increased by one in arch code
which stopped from problem from happening.
Now that the timer core problem is fixed (commit a4578ea (clockevents:
Sanitize ticks to nsec conversion)), we can switch back to the
clockevents_config_and_register helper.

Since commit 1e75fa8be9f (time: Condense timekeeper.xtime
into xtime_sec - merged in v3.6), there has been an problem
with the error accounting in the timekeeping code, such that
when truncating to nanoseconds, we round up to the next nsec,
but the balancing adjustment to the ntp_error value was dropped.
This causes 1ns per tick drift forward of the clock.
In 3.7, this logic was isolated to only GENERIC_TIME_VSYSCALL_OLD
architectures (s390, ia64, powerpc).
The fix is simply to balance the accounting and to subtract the
added nanosecond from ntp_error. This allows the internal long-term
clock steering to keep the clock accurate.
While this fix removes the regression added in 1e75fa8be9f, the
ideal solution is to move away from GENERIC_TIME_VSYSCALL_OLD
and use the new VSYSCALL method, which avoids entirely the
nanosecond granular rounding, and the resulting short-term clock
adjustment oscillation needed to keep long term accurate time.

RCU and the fine grained idle time accounting functions check
tick_nohz_enabled. But that variable is merily telling that NOHZ has
been enabled in the config and not been disabled on the command line.
But it does not tell anything about nohz being active. That's what all
this should check for.
Matthew reported, that the idle accounting on his old P1 machine
showed bogus values, when he enabled NOHZ in the config and did not
disable it on the kernel command line. The reason is that his machine
uses (refined) jiffies as a clocksource which explains why the "fine"
grained accounting went into lala land, because it depends on when the
system goes and leaves idle relative to the jiffies increment.
Provide a tick_nohz_active indicator and let RCU and the accounting
code use this instead of tick_nohz_enable.

the module returns in case of failure.
Restructure the code to make this possible for DT booted case.

In commit 7314e613d5ff ("Fix a few incorrectly checked
[io_]remap_pfn_range() calls") the uio driver started more properly
checking the passed-in user mapping arguments against the size of the
actual uio driver data.
That in turn exposed that some driver authors apparently didn't realize
that mmap can only work on a page granularity, and had tried to use it
with smaller mappings, with the new size check catching that out.
So since it's not just the user mmap() arguments that can be confused,
make the uio mmap code also verify that the uio driver has the memory
allocated at page boundaries in order for mmap to work. If the device
memory isn't properly aligned, we return
[ENODEV]
The fildes argument refers to a file whose type is not supported by mmap().
as per the open group documentation on mmap.

As of c0114709ed: "irqchip: gic: Perform the gic_secondary_init() call
via CPU notifier", booting on a platform with chained gics (e.g.
Realview EB ARM11MPCore) will result in the gic_cpu_notifier being
registered twice, corrupting the cpu notifier list and rendering the
platform unbootable.
This patch ensures that we only register the notifier for the first
gic, allowing platforms with chained gics to boot. At the same time we
limit the pointlessly duplicated calls to set_smp_cross_call and
set_handle_irq to the first gic registered.

When the system enters suspend, it disables all interrupts in
suspend_device_irqs(), including the interrupts marked EARLY_RESUME.
On the resume side things are different. The EARLY_RESUME interrupts
are reenabled in sys_core_ops->resume and the non EARLY_RESUME
interrupts are reenabled in the normal system resume path.
When suspend_noirq() failed or suspend is aborted for any other
reason, we might omit the resume side call to sys_core_ops->resume()
and therefor the interrupts marked EARLY_RESUME are not reenabled and
stay disabled forever.
To solve this, enable all irqs unconditionally in irq_resume()
regardless whether interrupts marked EARLY_RESUMEhave been already
enabled or not.
This might try to reenable already enabled interrupts in the non
failure case, but the only affected platform is XEN and it has been
confirmed that it does not cause any side effects.

commit bedd30d986a0 ("genirq: make irqreturn_t an enum") blindly replaced
"0" by "IRQ_NONE" in the "IRQ_RETVAL(x)" macro definition.
However, as "x" is a condition, "0" meant "boolean false", not an
irqreturn_t value.
All of this worked, and kept working after the addition of IRQ_WAKE_THREAD,
as
- both "boolean false" and "IRQ_NONE" are "0" (for the comparison),
- "boolean true" and "boolean false" nicely map to the correct values of
"IRQ_HANDLED" and "IRQ_NONE" (for the return value).
Correct the macro definition for clarity and future-proofness.

Tony reported that aa0d53260596 ("ia64: Use preempt_schedule_irq")
broke PREEMPT=n builds on ia64.
Ok, wrapped my brain around it. I tripped over the magic asm foo which
has a single need_resched check and schedule point for both sys call
return and interrupt return.
So you need the schedule_preempt_irq() for kernel preemption from
interrupt return while on a normal syscall preemption a schedule would
be sufficient. But using schedule_preempt_irq() is not harmful here in
any way. It just sets the preempt_active bit also in cases where it
would not be required.
Even on preempt=n kernels adding the preempt_active bit is completely
harmless. So instead of having an extra function, moving the existing
one out of the ifdef PREEMPT looks like the sanest thing to do.
It would also allow getting rid of various other sti/schedule/cli asm
magic in other archs.
