This function enables the irq first (Write INTC.SIE) and clear ISR next (Write INTC.IAR). This would create problems that processor will get into a new interrupt as soon as SIE is written because the previous level interrupt has been captured by INTC. If the description bring some puzzles, here is the details of how interrupt is handled for MicroBlaze after Interrupt signal is detected: 1. disable INTC (INTC.CIE = 1) 2. Acknowledge INTC (INTC.IAR = 1) 3. gets into interrupt source's handler, for example, timer's handler 4. Timer is interrupt handler acknowledge Timer Interrupt Status (Timer.TCSR0[23] = 1), and return 5. Enable INTC (INTC.SIE = 1) 6. Acknowledge INTC (INTC.IAR = 1) INTC continue to capture source inputs even if INTC is disabled (INTC.IER == 1). So between the gap of step 2 and step 3, the level interrupt from source makes INTC captures a new interrupt and thus the INTC.ISR = 1 during step 3, 4, and 5. It was causing the problem with timerfd syscall where using inline asm at the end of function call doesn't save u64 bit value to the stack. In comparison both cases you can find out this fragment where you can see the first part which is saved u64 value to stack and then using it in __put_user_asm_8 macro. This will provide speedup over using CRC32 instruction only. The usage of PCLMULQDQ necessitate the invocation of kernel_fpu_begin and kernel_fpu_end and incur some overhead. So the new crc_pcl function is only invoked for buffer size of 512 bytes or more. Larger sized buffers will expect to see greater speedup. This feature is best used coupled with eager_fpu which reduces the kernel_fpu_begin/end overhead. For buffer size of 1K the speedup is around 1.6x and for buffer size greater than 4K, the speedup is around 3x compared to original implementation in crc32c-intel module. Test was performed on Sandy Bridge based platform with constant frequency set for cpu. It causes odd bootup problems on x86-64. Markus Trippelsdorf gets a repeatable oops, and I see a non-repeatable oops (or constant stream of messages that scroll off too quickly to read) that seems to go away with this commit reverted. So we don't know exactly what is wrong with the commit, but it's definitely problematic, and worth reverting sooner rather than later. On Armada 370/XP, the lower windows have more configuration registers (4 registers) than the higher windows (2 registers). This armada_cfg_base() takes this into account by doing a different offset calculation depending on the window number, but this offset calculation was wrong for the higher windows. Even though we were not using high window numbers until now (only window 0 is used to map the BootROM, needed for SMP), we use this function at boot time to disable all windows to ensure that nothing remains intialized from what the bootloader has done. Unfortunately, the U-Boot on the OpenBlocks AX3-4 uses a window with a high number (above 8) to remap the BootROM. And then when the kernel boots, it remaps the BootROM in window 0. Normally, this is not a problem, because all windows have previously been disabled. Except that due to our wrong offset calculation, the windows with high numbers were not properly disabled, leading to the BootROM being mapped twice. The visible result of this bug was that the kernel was unable to get the second CPU started on the OpenBlocks AX3-4 platform. With this fix, all windows are properly cleared at boot time, the BootROM is remapped only once in window 0, and the second CPU boots fine.
