Assume there is data-available so both will simultaneously pass: udev->head == udev->tail Then the first thread goes to sleep and the second one pops the message from the queue. Now assume udev->head == udev->tail. If the first thread wakes up it will call wait_event_*() and sleep in the waitq. This effectively turns the non-blocking FD into a blocking one. We fix this by attempting to fetch events from the queue first and only if we fail to retrieve any events we either return -EAGAIN (in case of non-blocing read) or wait until there are more events. This also fixes incorrect return code (we were returning 0 instead of -EAGAIN for non-blocking reads) when an event is "stolen" by another thread. Blocking reads will now continue to wait instead of returning 0 in this scenario. Count of 0 continues to be a special case, as per spec: we will check for device existence and whether there are events in the queue, but no events will be actually retrieved. It turns out that some firmware uses the value 8176 to indicate a finger near the edge of the touchpad whose actual position cannot be determined. This value now gets treated as negative, which can cause pointer jumps and broken edge scrolling on these machines. I only know of one touchpad which reports negative values, and this hardware never reports any value lower than -8 (i.e. 8184). Moving the threshold for treating a value as negative up to 8176 should work fine then for any hardware we currently know about, and since we're dealing with unspecified behavior it's probably the best we can do. The special 8176 value is also likely to result in sudden jumps in position, so let's also clamp this to the maximum specified value for the axis. The underlaying reason is that if the supplied driver passes in a DMA_BIT_MASK(64) ( hwdev->coherent_dma_mask is set to 0xffffffffffffffff) our dma_mask will be u64 set to 0xffffffffffffffff even if we set it to DMA_BIT_MASK(32) previously. Meaning we do not reset the upper bits. By using the dma_alloc_coherent_mask function - it does the proper casting and we get 0xfffffffff. This caused not working sound on a system with 4 GB and a 64-bit compatible sound-card with sets the DMA-mask to 64bit. On bare-metal and the forward-ported xen-dom0 patches from OpenSuse a coherent DMA-memory is always allocated inside the 32-bit address-range by calling dma_alloc_coherent_mask. This patch adds the same functionality to xen swiotlb and is a rebase of the original patch from Ronny Hegewald which never got upstream b/c the underlaying reason was not understood until now. This is because the device configuration space registers will be not accessible if the corresponding parent bridge is suspended or the device is put into D3cold state. To solve the issue, the bridge/PCIe port connected to the device is put into active state before read/write configuration space registers. If the device is in D3cold state, it will be put into active state too. To avoid resume/suspend PCIe port for each configuration register read/write, a small delay is added before the PCIe port to go suspended. After that, D3 is further divided into D3hot and D3cold. To support both scenario safely, original D3 is mapped to D3cold. When adding D3cold support, because worry about some device may have broken D3cold support, D3cold is disabled by default. This disable D3 on original platform too. But some original platform may only have working D3, but no working D1, D2. The root cause of the above bug is it too. To deal with this, this patch enables D3/D3cold by default for most devices. This restores the original behavior. For some devices that suspected to have broken D3cold support, such as PCIe port, D3cold is disabled by default.
