| * Freezer: make kernel threads nonfreezable by defaultRafael J. Wysocki2007-07-17
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Currently, the freezer treats all tasks as freezable, except for the kernel threads that explicitly set the PF_NOFREEZE flag for themselves. This approach is problematic, since it requires every kernel thread to either set PF_NOFREEZE explicitly, or call try_to_freeze(), even if it doesn't care for the freezing of tasks at all. It seems better to only require the kernel threads that want to or need to be frozen to use some freezer-related code and to remove any freezer-related code from the other (nonfreezable) kernel threads, which is done in this patch. The patch causes all kernel threads to be nonfreezable by default (ie. to have PF_NOFREEZE set by default) and introduces the set_freezable() function that should be called by the freezable kernel threads in order to unset PF_NOFREEZE. It also makes all of the currently freezable kernel threads call set_freezable(), so it shouldn't cause any (intentional) change of behaviour to appear. Additionally, it updates documentation to describe the freezing of tasks more accurately. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: build fixes] Signed-off-by: Rafael J. * | [MTD] mtdcore.c: share syms with mtd_blkdev.cBen Dooks2007-06-28
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Fix the sparse warnings generated by the implicit dependency of mtd_blkdevs.c and mtd_core.c for the two symbols mtd_table and mtd_table_mutex. This is done by adding an local header file mtdcore.h to define these (including the warning about the non-proliferation of these symbols). * | [MTD] mtd_blkdevs.c: do not export 'mtd_blktrans_ops'Ben Dooks2007-06-28
|/ | | | | | | | | | | The mtd_blktrans_ops is not defined in any of the headers and is indeed not used elsewhere in the kernel, so mark it as static to reduce the warnings from sparse drivers/mtd/mtd_blkdevs.c:204:32: warning: symbol 'mtd_blktrans_ops' was not declared. Should it be static? Signed-off-by: Ben Dooks <ben-linux@fluff.org> Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org>

* [MTD] Allow variable block sizes in mtd_blkdevsRichard Purdie2006-11-28
| | | | | | | | | Currently, mtd_blkdevs enforces a block size of 512, even if the drivers can seemingly request a different size. This patch fixes mtd_blkdevs so block sizes other than 512 work correctly. Signed-off-by: Richard Purdie <rpurdie@openedhand.com> Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org>
* [MTD] fix printk warningJeff Garzik2006-10-01
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | gcc spits out this warning: drivers/mtd/mtd_blkdevs.c: In function ‘do_blktrans_request’: drivers/mtd/mtd_blkdevs.c:72: warning: format ‘%ld’ expects type ‘long int’, but argument 2 has type ‘unsigned int’ This could be fixed any number of ways, including use of BUG(). rq_data_dir() only returns 0 or 1, so this entire case is superfluous. I did the most simple fix. Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org> Signed-off-by: David Woodhouse <dwmw2@infradead.org>
* [PATCH] Split struct request ->flags into two partsJens Axboe2006-09-30
| | | | | | | | | | Right now ->flags is a bit of a mess: some are request types, and others are just modifiers. Clean this up by splitting it into ->cmd_type and ->cmd_flags. This allows introduction of generic Linux block message types, useful for sending generic Linux commands to block devices. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <axboe@suse.de>

* [PATCH] Add block_device_operations.getgeo block device methodChristoph Hellwig2006-01-08
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | HDIO_GETGEO is implemented in most block drivers, and all of them have to duplicate the code to copy the structure to userspace, as well as getting the start sector. This patch moves that to common code [1] and adds a ->getgeo method to fill out the raw kernel hd_geometry structure. For many drivers this means ->ioctl can go away now. [1] the s390 block drivers are odd in this respect. xpram sets ->start to 4 always which seems more than odd, and the dasd driver shifts the start offset around, probably because of it's non-standard sector size. * [MTD] mtd_blkdevs.c: Fix names when many devices/partitions are createdTodd Poynor2005-08-04
| | | | | | | | | | | | | mtdblock (and other mtd modules that use the mtd_blkdevs interface between the mtd translation layers and the linux block layer) handles incorrectly more than 10 devices or 26 partitions in the names passed to the generic disk layer. This causes the device file names and other info kept by the generic disk/block layers to have names such as "mtdblock<". Use integer formatting for device numbers; use "aa-az" for partitions 27-52, "ba-bz" for 53-78... Signed-off-by: Todd Poynor <tpoynor@mvista.com> Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
