* clocksource: pass clocksource to read() callbackMagnus Damm2009-04-21
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | Pass clocksource pointer to the read() callback for clocksources. This allows us to share the callback between multiple instances. * cpumask: remove references to struct irqaction's mask field.Rusty Russell2009-03-30
| | | | | | | | | | Impact: cleanup It's unused, since about 1995. So remove all initialization of it in preparation for actually removing the field. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au> Acked-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de>

| * | | | | x86: refactor x86_quirks supportIngo Molnar2009-02-22
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Impact: cleanup Make x86_quirks support more transparent. The highlevel methods are now named: extern void x86_quirk_pre_intr_init(void); extern void x86_quirk_intr_init(void); extern void x86_quirk_trap_init(void); extern void x86_quirk_pre_time_init(void); extern void x86_quirk_time_init(void); This makes it clear that if some platform extension has to do something here that it is considered ... weird, and is discouraged. Also remove arch_hooks.h and move it into setup.h (and other header files where appropriate). Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>

| | * | | x86: Add IRQF_TIMER to legacy x86 timer interrupt descriptorsLinus Torvalds2009-02-22
| | | |/ | | |/| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Right now nobody cares, but the suspend/resume code will eventually want to suspend device interrupts without suspending the timer, and will depend on this flag to know. The modern x86 timer infrastructure uses the local APIC timers and never shows up as a device interrupt at all, so it isn't affected and doesn't need any of this. Cc: Rafael J. | * x86: replace CONFIG_X86_SMP with CONFIG_SMPIngo Molnar2009-01-29
|/ | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | The x86/Voyager subarch used to have this distinction between 'x86 SMP support' and 'Voyager SMP support': config X86_SMP bool depends on SMP && ((X86_32 && !X86_VOYAGER) || X86_64) This is a pointless distinction - Voyager can (and already does) use smp_ops to implement various SMP quirks it has - and it can be extended more to cover all the specialities of Voyager. So remove this complication in the Kconfig space. Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
* cpumask: convert struct clock_event_device to cpumask pointers.Rusty Russell2008-12-13
| | | | | | | | | | | | | Impact: change calling convention of existing clock_event APIs struct clock_event_timer's cpumask field gets changed to take pointer, as does the ->broadcast function. Another single-patch change. For safety, we BUG_ON() in clockevents_register_device() if it's not set. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au> Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>

* x86: isolate PIC/PIT in/out callsAlan Cox2008-01-30
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Rather than remove and/or mangle inb_p/outb_p we want to remove the use of them from inappropriate places. For the PIC/PIT this may eventually depend on 32/64bitism or similar so start by adding inb/outb_pit and inb/outb_pic so that we can make them use any scheme we settle on without disturbing the existing, correct (for ISA), port 0x80 usage. (eg we can make inb_pit use udelay without messing up inb_p). Floppy already does this for the fdc. That really only leaves the CMOS as a core logic item to tackle, and bits of parallel port handling in the chipset layers.
