The feature is for kdump kernels to speed up the /proc/vmcore reading. There is a ram_is_pfn helper function that the different platforms can register for. We are now doing that. The bug-fixes cover some embarrassing struct pv_cpu_ops variables being set to NULL on Xen (but not baremetal). We had a similar issue in the past with {write|read}_msr_safe and this fills the three missing ones. The other bug-fix is to make the console output (hvc) be capable of dealing with misbehaving backends and not fall flat on its face. Lastly, a quirk for older XenBus implementations that came with an ancient v3.4 hypervisor (so RHEL5 based) - reading of certain non-existent attributes just hangs the guest during bootup - so we take precaution of not doing that on such older installations. Feature: - Register a pfn_is_ram helper to speed up reading of /proc/vmcore. Bug-fixes: - Three pvops call for Xen were undefined causing BUG_ONs. - Add a quirk so that the shutdown watches (used by kdump) are not used with older Xen (3.4). - Fix ungraceful state transition for the HVC console." * tag 'stable/for-linus-3.7-rc0-tag' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/konrad/xen: xen/pv-on-hvm kexec: add quirk for Xen 3.4 and shutdown watches. xen/bootup: allow {read|write}_cr8 pvops call. xen/bootup: allow read_tscp call for Xen PV guests. xen pv-on-hvm: add pfn_is_ram helper for kdump xen/hvc: handle backend CLOSED without CLOSING

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Register pfn_is_ram helper speed up reading /proc/vmcore in the kdump kernel. See commit message of 997c136f518c ("fs/proc/vmcore.c: add hook to read_from_oldmem() to check for non-ram pages") for details. It makes use of a new hvmop HVMOP_get_mem_type which was introduced in xen 4.2 (23298:26413986e6e0) and backported to 4.1.1. The new function is currently only enabled for reading /proc/vmcore. Later it will be used also for the kexec kernel. Since that requires more changes in the generic kernel make it static for the time being. This fixes the problem by moving LATCH back to where it was, but it seems that there are still cases where SHIFTED_HZ is defined incorrectly because of the same problem. Need to investigate further. | | * | | jiffies: Remove compile time assumptions about CLOCK_TICK_RATEJohn Stultz2012-09-24
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | CLOCK_TICK_RATE is used to accurately caclulate exactly how a tick will be at a given HZ. This is useful, because while we'd expect NSEC_PER_SEC/HZ, the underlying hardware will have some granularity limit, so we won't be able to have exactly HZ ticks per second. This slight error can cause timekeeping quality problems when using the jiffies or other jiffies driven clocksources. Thus we currently use compile time CLOCK_TICK_RATE value to generate SHIFTED_HZ and NSEC_PER_JIFFIES, which we then use to adjust the jiffies clocksource to correct this error. Unfortunately though, since CLOCK_TICK_RATE is a compile time value, and the jiffies clocksource is registered very early during boot, there are a number of cases where there are different possible hardware timers that have different tick rates. This causes problems in cases like ARM where there are numerous different types of hardware, each having their own compile-time CLOCK_TICK_RATE, making it hard to accurately support different hardware with a single kernel. For the most part, this doesn't matter all that much, as not too many systems actually utilize the jiffies or jiffies driven clocksource. Usually there are other highres clocksources who's granularity error is negligable. Even so, we have some complicated calcualtions that we do everywhere to handle these edge cases. This patch removes the compile time SHIFTED_HZ value, and introduces a register_refined_jiffies() function. This results in the default jiffies clock as being assumed a perfect HZ freq, and allows archtectures that care about jiffies accuracy to call register_refined_jiffies() with the tick rate, specified dynamically at boot. This allows us, where necessary, to not have a compile time CLOCK_TICK_RATE constant, simplifies the jiffies code, and still provides a way to have an accurate jiffies clock. NOTE: Since this patch does not add register_refinied_jiffies() calls for every arch, it may cause time quality regressions in some cases. Its likely these will not be noticable, but if they are an issue, adding the following to the end of setup_arch() should resolve the regression: register_refinied_jiffies(CLOCK_TICK_RATE) Cc: Catalin Marinas <catalin.marinas@arm.com> Cc: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Cc: Richard Cochran <richardcochran@gmail.com> Cc: Prarit Bhargava <prarit@redhat.com> Cc: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> Signed-off-by: John Stultz <john.stultz@linaro.org>

| | * | | alarmtimer: Use hrtimer per-alarm instead of per-baseJohn Stultz2012-09-24
| | |/ / | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Arve Hjønnevåg reported numerous crashes from the "BUG_ON(timer->state != HRTIMER_STATE_CALLBACK)" check in __run_hrtimer after it called alarmtimer_fired. It ends up the alarmtimer code was not properly handling possible failures of hrtimer_try_to_cancel, and because these faulres occur when the underlying base hrtimer is being run, this limits the ability to properly handle modifications to any alarmtimers on that base. Because much of the logic duplicates the hrtimer logic, it seems that we might as well have a per-alarmtimer hrtimer, and avoid the extra complextity of trying to multiplex many alarmtimers off of one hrtimer. Thus this patch moves the hrtimer to the alarm structure and simplifies the management logic. This series contains: - s5p-mfc: additions at the driver and at the core to support H.264 hardware codec; - Some improvements at s5p and davinci embedded drivers; - Some V4L2 compliance fixes applied on a few drivers; - Several random trivial patches, including several fixes and a few new board support additions; Notes: 1) Some Exynos media patches were dependent on some -arm fixes that got merged on changeset 782cd9e. That's why this pull request is based that changeset. 2) As promised, I reviewed the pending VB2 DMABUF series. While setting a test environment, it was noticed that the upstream support for Samsung Exynos 4 boards (smdk310 and Origen) are broken upstream, likely due to regressions: both defconfigs are wrong and regulator settings for both boards are broken. That, allied with some bug at the dummy regulator driver, causes OOPSes during boot time. Long story short: even fixing the above, the proposed patches OOPSed when running the DMABUF test. Not sure yet if the OOPSes are due to some other undetected regressions, or due to some bug on the patches. Due to the above, DMABUF patches for vb2 got NACKed for 3.7." * 'v4l_for_linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mchehab/linux-media: (109 commits) [media] m5mols: Add missing #include <linux/sizes.h> [media] stk1160: Add support for S-Video input Revert "[media] omap3isp: Replace cpu_is_omap3630() with ISP revision check" [media] dvb: LNA implementation changes [media] v4l2-ioctl: fix W=1 warnings [media] v4l2-ioctl: add blocks check for VIDIOC_SUBDEV_G/S_EDID [media] omap3isp: Fix compilation error in ispreg.h [media] rc-msi-digivox-ii: Add full scan keycodes [media] cx25821: testing the wrong variable [media] tda18271-common: hold the I2C adapter during write transfers [media] ds3000: add module parameter to force firmware upload [media] drivers/media: Remove unnecessary semicolon [media] winbond: remove space from driver name [media] iguanair: cannot send data from the stack [media] omap3isp: Replace cpu_is_omap3630() with ISP revision check [media] dvb-usb: print small buffers via %*ph [media] uvc: Add return code check at vb2_queue_init() [media] em28xx: Replace memcpy with struct assignment [media] bt8xx: Add video4linux control V4L2_CID_COLOR_KILLER [media] mem2mem_testdev: Use devm_kzalloc() in probe ... This is not necessarily the case. Separate the two. So there is a list of subdevs and a list of outputs. Each output refers to a subdev and has routing information. An output does not have to have a subdev. The initial output for each channel is set to the fist output. Currently missing is support for associating multiple subdevs with an output. Notable changes: * Basic writeback support for DISPC level. Writeback is not yet usable, though, as we need higher level code to actually expose the writeback feature to userspace. * Rewriting the omapdss output drivers. We're trying to remove the hard links between the omapdss and the panels, and this rewrite work moves us closer to that goal. * Cleanup and restructuring patches that have been made while working on device tree support for omapdss. Device tree support is still some way ahead, but these patches are good cleanups in themselves. * Basic OMAP5 DSS support for DPI and DSI outputs. * Workaround for the problem that GFX overlay's fifo is too small for high resolution scenarios, causing underflows. * Cleanups that remove dependencies to omap platform code.

One more difference is that screen_width is renamed to buf_width, to give the value of stride the writeback buffer has. Call dispc_ovl_setup_common() through dispc_wb_setup() to configure overlay-like parameters. The parameters in dispc_ovl_setup_common() which do not hold for writeback are filled passed as zeroes or false, the code takes care of not configuring them as they won't possess the needed overlay caps. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Add position and replication as overlay caps, and pass overlay caps as an argument to the corresponding functions. Adding position and replication to overlay caps seems a bit unnecessary, but it allows us to use the corresponding functions for writeback too. These caps will be set for all overlays, but not for writeback. This is done so writeback can reuse dispc_ovl_setup() to the maximum. Signed-off-by: Archit Taneja <archit@ti.com>

| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | Now that an omap_dss_output can be used to link between managers and devices, we can remove the old way of setting manager and device links. This involves removing the device and manager pointers from omap_overlay_manager and omap_dss_device respectively, and removing the set_device/unset_device ops from omap_overlay_manager. | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | With the introduction of output entities, managers will now connect to outputs. Create helper ops for overlays and managers named get_device. This will abstract away the information on how to get the device from an overlay or an overlay manager. The get_device ops currently retrieve the output via a ovl->manager->device reference. This will be later replaced by ovl->manager->output->device references.
