| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | fails Commit 40dcd0e ("usb: chipidea: add PTW, PTS and STS handling") introduced the following code to the ci_hdrc_probe() function: + if (!dev->of_node && dev->parent) + dev->of_node = dev->parent->of_node; This inadvertently associates the ci_hdrc device with the ci_hdrc_imx driver (which created the ci_hdrc device in the first place). This results in ci_hdrc_imx_probe() being run for the ci_hdrc device if ci_hdrc_probe() fails for some reason. ci_hdrc_imx_probe() will happily create a new ci_hdrc platform_device whose probing will likewise fail and trigger a new invocation of ci_hdrc_imx_probe() ... ad nauseam. The goal to be achieved is to force USB_CHIPIDEA=m if either USB_EHCI_HCD=m or USB_GADGET=m. If both are 'y' USB_CHIPIDEA may be selected to be 'm' or 'y'. The old patch had the drawback, that USB_CHIPIDEA could be chosen as 'y' though USB_EHCI_HCD or USB_GADGET (or both) were 'm' leading to a situation where USB_CHIPIDEA_HOST or USB_CHIPIDEA_UDC vanished from the config options producing a compilable but dysfunctional driver. In order to reproduce this problem: - Insert a USB thumb into the USB host port (connection is detected) - Remove it (no disconnect event will be reported) - Insert the USB thumb again (connection is not detected) Fix this problem by accessing the usb_phy structure using the private data instead of accessing a local structure. Tested on a mx28evk board. We use the linked list implementation to manage all tds which get added and removed by hardware_{en,de}queue. The removal of this restriction adds the driver to run into a hardware errata. It's possible that the hardware will still address an transfer descriptor that already got cleaned up. To solve this the patch also postpone the cleanup of processed tds by one. In fact, this problem is existed on all platforms which are using chipidea driver. The root cause of this problem is the chipidea host uses symbol exported from ehci-hcd, but chipidea core does not depends on USB_EHCI_HCD. So, chipidea driver will not be compiled as module if USB_EHCI_HCD=m. It is very hard to give a perfect solution since chipidea core depends on USB || USB_GADGET, and chipdiea host depends on both USB_EHCI_HCD and USB_CHIPIDEA, the same problem exists for gadget. To fix this problem, we had to have below assumptions: - If USB_EHCI_HCD=y && USB_GADGET=y, USB_CHIPIDEA can be 'y'. - If USB_EHCI_HCD=m && USB_GADGET=y, USB_CHIPIDEA=m or USB_CHIPIDEA_HOST can't be seen if USB_CHIPIDEA=y. It will cause compile error due to no glue layer for ehci: > error: #error "missing bus glue for ehci-hcd" So, we had to compile USB_CHIPIDEA=m if USB_EHCI_HCD=m, current ehci hcd core guarantee it. - If USB_EHCI_HCD=y && USB_GADGET=m, USB_CHIPIDEA=m or USB_CHIPIDEA_UDC can't be seen if USB_CHIPIDEA=y. Of cos, the gadget will out of working at this situation, so the user had to compile USB_CHIPIDEA=m. - USB_EHCI_HCD=m && USB_GADGET=m, we can't see USB_CHIPIDEA_HOST and USB_CHIPIDEA_UDC unless USB_CHIPIDEA=m. The reason why it has above assumptions: - If both ehci core and gadget core build as module, the chipidea has to build as module. - If one of ehci core or gadget core is built in, another is built as module, we can only enable the function which is built in, or enable both roles as modules (USB_CHIPIDEA=m), since chipidea core driver takes care of both host and device roles. The motivation for doing this change is that in the case of error, the current code only sets the local reg_vbus to NULL instead of updating the private structure 'data->reg_vbus'. Updating only the local reg_vbus is wrong, since we currently check for data->reg_vbus in the ci13xxx_imx_remove() function. In order to avoid such issue, just use 'data->reg_vbus' directly. There is no need to skip querying the config and string descriptors for unauthorized WUSB devices when usb_new_device is called. It is allowed by WUSB spec. The only action that needs to be delayed until authorization time is the set config. This change allows user mode tools to see the config and string descriptors earlier in enumeration which is needed for some WUSB devices to function properly on Android systems. According to Freescale imx28 Errata, "ENGR119653 USB: ARM to USB register error issue", All USB register write operations must use the ARM SWP instruction. So, we implement a special ehci_write for imx28. Discussion for it at below: http://marc.info/?l=linux-usb&m=137996395529294&w=2 Without this patcheset, imx28 works unstable at high AHB bus loading. If the bus loading is not high, the imx28 usb can work well at the most of time. There is a IC errata for this problem, usually, we consider IC errata is a problem not a new feature, and this workaround is needed for that, so we need to add them to stable tree 3.11+. Another problem is that it uses hub->ports[i] while the port device is being released. To fix this race, we need to hold the device_state_lock while hub_disconnect() changes the values. (Note that usb_disconnect() and hub_port_connect_change() already acquire this lock at similar critical times during a USB device's life cycle.) We also need to remove the port devices after maxchild has been set to 0, instead of before. A previous fix in commit 8704211f65a2 ("USB: ftdi_sio: fixed handling of unsupported CSIZE setting") enforced this limitation and reported it back to userspace. However, certain types of smartcard readers depend on specific driver behaviour that requests 0 data bits (not 5) to change into a different operating mode if CS5 has been set. This patch reenables this behaviour for all FTDI devices. Tagged to be added to stable, because it affects a lot of users of embedded systems which rely on these readers to work properly. Some PL2303 devices are known to lose bytes if you change serial settings even to the same values as before. Avoid this by comparing the encoded settings with the previsouly used ones before configuring the device. The common case was fixed by commit bf5e5834bffc6 ("pl2303: Fix mode switching regression"), but this problem was still possible to trigger, for instance, by using the TCSETS2-interface to repeatedly request 115201 baud, which gets mapped to 115200 and thus always triggers a settings update. The current generic write implementation introduced by commit 27c7acf22047 ("USB: serial: reimplement generic fifo-based writes") has always had this bug, although it's fairly hard to trigger and the consequences are not likely to be noticed. Specifically, a write() on one CPU while the completion handler is running on another could result in only one of the two write urbs being utilised to empty the remainder of the write fifo (unless there is a second write() that doesn't race during that time).
